We Have Winners!

Answers and winners of our latest and most devious U2.Competition. This one, we admit, was a tricky one. The answers to five slippery questions were all hidden on the U2.Com Subscribes site - but some of them were pretty obscure. Despite that we had hundreds of entries, no doubt because the prizes were highly desirable.

Our lucky winners get a set of three recent U2 books including Anton Corbijn's 'U2&I' (superb photo-documentary record of nearly a quarter century), 'Conversations with Bono' by Michka Assayas (French journalist getting Bono to talk on a vast range of subjects) and, quirkiest of the lot, 'Killing Bono' in which author Neil McCormick, a school classmate of the band, describes the agony of failing to become a celebrated rock musician himself.

And our three lucky winners (trumpet rolls etc) are Marianne Cross from St Agnes in Cornwall in the UK, Garry Genualdo from Medford, MA in the US and Michelle Dunn from Baltimore, MD in the US. Well done the three of you - your seriously heavy pack of books are on their way to you.

And so to the answers.

We asked: What was the name of the band that U2's Tour Manager started out playing guitar and piano with ? ANSWER: THE CARDINALS, found in the Crew Profile of the one and only Dennis Sheehan.

We asked:At which 1990's protest concert were two b-side releases from a recent U2 single originally recorded ? ANSWER 'Stop Sellafield' Concert from which The Fly and Even Better Than The Real Thing featured on the b-side to City of Blinding Lights.

We asked:What was the name of the English airport from where Vertigo Air took the band to Vienna after Live 8 ? ANSWER: RAF Northolt found in an entry of the Willie Diaries in early July.(You see, you really had to look carefully!)

We asked you to:Name seven support acts who have performed with U2 on the European leg of Vertigo '05 ? Answers from : KEANE, STARSAILOR, FRANZ FERDINAND, ATHLETE, KILLERS, ASH, SNOW PATROL etc

We asked:Who got married on a Rolling Stones tour and divorced on the next one ? ANSWER : Jake Berry, U2's Production Director, as he mentions in our Crew Profile.

Oh, and how could we forget, we also asked all entrants to complete a sentence for us: 'I think one song that U2 have not played on Vertigo '05 which they should on the third leg this Autumn is ......... Because .....................'

Marianne said: 'Rejoice, because that's what I did when I saw them!'

Garry said: I think one song that U2 have not played on Vertigo '05 which they should on the third leg this Autumn is Mothers of the Disapeared because it is one of those hidden gems that you forget about and when you hear it you remember why U2 is the greatest band in the world.

Michelle said: I think one song that U2 have not played on Vertigo '05 which they should on the third leg this Autumn is Daddys Gonna Pay for Your Crashed Car because simply put the song just kicks ass big time!! I still rock out to that song several times a week to this day.'

Thanks to all of you who entered, we've got another competition in the works and it will be along shortly.
