'One I Keep Coming Back To'

8 Apr 201350

Ahead of Walk In My Shoes day this  Friday, Hot Press have posted their recent interview with Adam.

Walk In My Shoes, an initiative of St. Patrick’s University Hospital, Dublin, is all about raising funds and  awareness of mental health issues facing young Irish people.

As well as talking in depth about the taboos surrounding mental health, Adam also talks about the work he and the band are doing in the studio - and some of the music he's been listening to. He namechecks albums by The Tribes, The Vaccines, The Villagers, The Original Rudeboys and The Maccabees.

'The Tribes album, Baby, is one I keep coming back to. The Vaccines have that garage-y Ramones thing going on, which I’m a sucker for. The Villagers album is great - Conor J. O’Brien is an incredibly talented guy. I made a bit of a connection today at the Walk In My Shoes launch with The Original Rudeboys - they have a lot of energy. A band I really like and got to see in London recently are The Maccabees. They sound quite tough on record, but live are a bit… not wimpy, sensitive!'

So there's five to watch from Adam but while you wait for the next U2 album what five bands are you getting into? What album are you loving right now? Who've you caught live that blew you away? In the comments below,  spread the word on the five acts and five records you're into in 2013.

Bands I love besides U2!
I'm a huge fan of The Chevin from Otley, outside of Leeds, England! I can't stop listening to their debut album Borderland, and they are so amazing live! Their sound has been compared to U2/The Killers/Coldplay/Keane. Must check them out!!! Also love New Jersey band The Gaslight Anthem, they rock! And listening to Zane Carney's solo stuff on youtube, he's so talented; his brother Reeve plays Spiderman on Broadway! I actually found out about Carney because of Bono and The Edge's work with Spiderman, so thanks! I'm also listening to some Thirty Seconds to Mars, The Airborne Toxic Event, Muse, and a great but less well known British rock band Officer Kicks, give them a listen too, they're excellent!

5 bands I've seen live, thanks to U2
The Script - I first saw/heard them when they supported U2 in Dublin in 2009. Danny (lead singer) won me over with his reaction to the crowd singing 'The Man Who Can't Be Moved', and I have now seen them for their own shows 7 more times on various tours, including 2 times this past weekend! The Swell Season/Glen Hansard - After returning home from the Dublin 360 shows, I was devouring all things Irish and happened to pick up a copy of 'Once' on DVD, instantly falling in love with their music, and have since been lucky enough to see them live. (Plus, of course, Bono joins Glen for his annual Xmas Eve busking session in Grafton St!) Elbow - 'One Day Like This' was played over the PA while the U2 crew did final set up/sound checks on the Aussie leg of 360. On the awesomeness of that song alone, I decided to go and see them (twice!) when they toured Aus in 2012, and like The Script and The Swell Season, I now count them as one of my fave bands. Bombay Bicycle Club - Supported Elbow on their Aus tour, which I would never have gone to had it not been for the above story. The Original Rudeboys - These Dublin lads supported The Script on their recent Aussie tour, and as Adam mentioned in the above article, 'they have a lot of energy', which combined with their unique acoustic hip hop sound, won them a lot of fans, including me, and their album 'This Life' has been on repeat pretty much ever since. Special mentions to; Jay-Z who supported U2 on their Aussie tour in 2010, and after an initial negative reaction from a lot of fans when it was first announced, won the crowd over night after night, and if given the opportunity, I would gladly see him again for his own shows. Florence + the Machine whose 'Dog Days Are Over' song was also played over the PA as the U2 crew was setting up in Aus, and who I subsequently saw when she toured last year.
