A Beautiful City

Friday 18th September 2009. Toronto - Boston.

The band entourage is staying in Toronto until Sunday, but a few of us wanted to get to Boston sooner, so took a commercial flight today. We experimented with flying from Toronto City Airport, a small commuter hub on an island in the body of water right next to the gig. It involved taking a short ferry ride to get to the aeroplane, which was novel. In Boston the U.S. immigration hall was deserted which was a major bonus and rather compensated for Chicago last week.

Boston's a beautiful city and it's good to have a few days here, as it's been a while (other than for the Sommerville theatre show at the beginning of the year which was a complete and utter flypast). I have some friends who'd come in for the gig so we found each other and spent a very pleasant low key evening. Strolling, mild weather, twilight, all good.

Within the bands entourage (certainly by comparison to the crews clockwork scheduling) travel departure times are often a little loose. This morning was especially so, due to three contradictory memos which had been emailed out last night and this morning.

There was a 6.30pm conference call arranged between Bono (Dublin), The Edge (Los Angeles), Steve Matthews (London) and myself (also London) to blow the cobwebs off our brains and discuss the reincarnation of the Vertigo Tour.

I was planning on resurrecting the tour diary today, being the day we were scheduled to fly to Auckland for the load-in tomorrow. However, its now old news that the remainder of the tour dates have been postponed, so Im not going anywhere further than the corner cafe. Its been a very weird week indeed - much akin to driving into a wall.
