Birthday Party for The Edge
Nice. Day off.
I didn't stir until well into the afternoon then staggered up to face the day. We took the flying saucer out to 'Auchan', a gigantic hypermarket, to stock up on supplies for the next week or so. The food and drink at these places is fantastic and, even though less so than pre-Euro, they're also very inexpensive. We stocked up (I seemed to buy mostly liquids) and headed back to the ranch.
The Edge threw a birthday party this evening, not a theme party exactly but designed to be a stylish Riviera cocktail party. 'Come for cocktails between 6 and 8pm' read the invitation. The ladies were given strings of pearls to wear and the gentlemen roses for their lapels, all on a terrace overlooking the sea. All very pleasant and grown up it was too. Until about 10pm. By midnight it was significantly less 'grown up' and by 3am it was more akin to a teenage disco but with more table dancing involved. I also seem to recall men in pearls and ladies with roses in their hair. It had effectively become our relief-at-having-got-the-tour-launched party and was enormous fun, what little I remember of it.
