Boston Fleet Center I

Leaving New York. It was too early a baggage call for my liking and after ten days in the same hotel room packing always comes as a bit of a shock.

Everyone looked a little dazed as we gathered in the lobby of the hotel and climbed into vans bound for La Guardia. The airline crew always takes good care of us, but today they were serving curried lamb and chicken wings which was a snack too far at breakfast time. They did explain that we were originally scheduled to leave at 2pm and it was too late to change the menu, but had we known I suspect we might have made a muffin stop on the way to airport.

There was an MTV camera crew on the plane, for reasons which were never revealed to me, but presumably because this was the only available time in the bands schedule for whatever TV piece they are doing. The band members have been caning it as much of the rest of us, with continuous daily extra-curricular activities. As Edge said the other day, it comes to something when you think a day off means only having one interview and one photo session.

Bonos doing a book signing in Boston this afternoon of the Michka Assayas book (I think this is why we left so early today) and always has daily commitments with his DATA and political work, plus he and Ali are attending launches in several cities for their Edun clothing range. Oh, and there are some concerts to be done too. I dont know how he gets through the day.

So, Boston. Back to the scene of the crime. Boston is where we shot the DVD for the Elevation tour, so its good to come here and just play shows without all the attendant palava that comes with film shoots. Bostons a great city for U2, always has been. I remember first coming here on the War tour, having played a string of college and small theatre gigs. I hadnt quite put two and two together regarding the Irish-Boston-U2 connection so was staggered at the response from the audience at the Orpheum theatre. I think we did two nights and there were people practically hanging from the rafters.
