We awake to a sunny morning, alert the media. Boston is so gorgeous when the sun comes out. In a fit of uncharacteristic keenness, the band called another early soundcheck to rehearse new material (this actually was very keen indeed as originally there wasnt a plan for a soundcheck at all today). This meant I had to cut short my traditional trip to Filenes Basement and I didnt get to the hardware store at all. A retail plan gone awry.

It was worthwhile though, because the band played through a lot of material and decided to have a go at Wild Horses and Until the End of the World in tonights show. This was particularly impressive on Larrys part as he wasnt at the rehearsal (I am not sure where hed gone, but he was unable to get back any sooner once the spontaneous rehearsal was called, so drum tech Sam OSullivan sat in for him). Consequently Larry essentially played Wild Horses with little or no rehearsal and just nailed it. Its a great song and the audience clearly appreciated hearing it.

Today was also a pack up day of course, as the European show will be very different to this indoor system. Much of the gear we have here wont see the light of day again till the Fall leg, so everything has to be labeled to make sure it goes on the correct truck at load out tonight. I went through my road box, at last able to chuck out loads of paperwork, disks and so forth which were so vital three months ago and are now just so much jet trash. Also stuffed the box full of things Ill need in Belgium but dont especially feel the need to hand-carry half way around the planet.

Back at the hotel lounge there were late night drinks to be had. The Kings of Leon joined us. They are such a nice bunch and have been a real pleasure to have around. Its a shame we wont see them in Europe, though the line up of opening acts looks pretty stellar for the next leg.

It was suicidal to stay up late, but on the other hand experience tells you that when youve a 5.45am lobby call an extra hours sleep really isnt going to make a great deal of difference.
