'Close to the end...'
Monday 5th October 2009. New York - Atlanta

I headed down to Atlanta this morning, a day before the rest of the entourage, as I wanted to do some work on the show, which is impossible on show day. I stayed late with my small team of lighting and video peeps, with me watching from way up high in the building. We went through cues and corrected things which I had noted were awry in Charlottesville when I last watched the show from the nosebleeds. There was nothing major that was wrong, just little things that aren't visible when you watch the show from the mix position and so never get noticed.

Ethan needed a little time to do some programming, so I sat and chatted with Robert, one of our site co-ordinators, who produced a bottle of fine red wine form a nearby flight case. It was good to catch up - once we get out of production rehearsals there never seems to be any time for this kind of leisurely interaction. It's a little startling to realise how close to the end of the tour we are. It only seems a moment since we were chatting and enjoying late night red wine in Barcelona. Robert has a funny and very apt cartoon on his office wall. There are two frames, the first is captioned 'For Travellers' and shows a person looking at a wall-mounted map bearing an arrow marked 'You Are Here'. The second frame is captioned 'For Time Travellers' and shows an alien looking at a wall-mounted calendar, with an arrow pointing to a particular date marked... 'You Are Here'.

Arena shows to fend off the winter blues
Some Stateside arena shows would be an amazing winter perk. If you could convey to Mr. Paul McGuinness that since stadium shows are not possible in Europe and North America during the winter months it would be great to do some arena dates. Even though the 360 stage would not be feasible in an arena setting I would just be thrilled to again see the band in a smaller venue.

Thank you
Thanks Willie for all of your engaging entries. And thanks also for reminding us the end is near. I've been patiently waiting for this part, and our tickets have been incubating in my sock drawer since April!!! Bring on Vegas and Vancouver. The end....

Put in a good word for us...
Do you think you'd be able to convince the boys to leave the gear state side and give some more love to the red white and blue next spring before you start the show in 08-10?

It does seem unbelievable that this tour is drawing to a close . . . . I wish I could have gone to more shows, but it was amazing! God Bless U2 in all that they do. Thanks Willie!

Latest Willie's Diary

21 Nov, 2006
Within the bands entourage (certainly by comparison to the crews clockwork scheduling) travel departure times are often a little loose. This morning was especially so, due to three contradictory memos which had been emailed out last night and this morning.

There was a 6.30pm conference call arranged between Bono (Dublin), The Edge (Los Angeles), Steve Matthews (London) and myself (also London) to blow the cobwebs off our brains and discuss the reincarnation of the Vertigo Tour.

I was planning on resurrecting the tour diary today, being the day we were scheduled to fly to Auckland for the load-in tomorrow. However, its now old news that the remainder of the tour dates have been postponed, so Im not going anywhere further than the corner cafe. Its been a very weird week indeed - much akin to driving into a wall.
