Day Off - Amsterdam

We had this idea to take a boat out on the canals today. Joe has some friends visiting from Dublin, and I have some friends in from London so between us we made up a big enough party to rent a decent size vessel and indeed obtained a very nice one with a friendly captain and a little deck out the back. We sailed at noon, with a picnic lunch aboard and as much champagne and wine as we could lay hands on at short notice. Now, what we didn't know was that today is Amsterdam Gay Pride, and the parade happens on the water (i.e. the carnival "floats" really do float). Net result? A glorious sunny afternoon spent, pleasantly plastered, bobbing round Amsterdam amid thumping disco barges and boatloads of drag queens. You couldn't script this kind of thing.
