Day off - Los Angeles early morning

Early morning. April 4. Laundry time. Staying in fabulous hotels is a wonderful privilege, but does present occasional challenges, none more daunting than laundry. "Oh, can't the hotel do your laundry for you?" I hear you cry. Well, yes of course they can, but in some of the places we've been staying it would work out far cheaper to just buy new clothes. Wandered down to the hotel concierge to get directions to the nearest laundromat, hoping for better luck than in Atlanta. At the concierge desk I met Bret, our travel coordinator who was just in the process of doing exactly the same thing, so we joined forces in the quest for cleanliness.

In the hotel lobby we found Dennis our road manager and Bob our tour accountant who were also just about to go and do laundry..... then Amanda our press officer appears, laundry bag in hand. This beautiful moment of domestic synchronicity was pushed into Stepford Wives territory by virtue of everybody carrying identical laundry bags - these rather dinky beige canvas drawstring numbers which, evidently, all of us had stolen from the hotel in Dallas. We all had a good laugh at each other and headed out en masse, first to the laundry and then on to Mel's Diner for breakfast.

Apres avoir manger, Amanda and I took a walk along Sunset Strip to the extremely groovy National Hotel, which has - hurrah, hurrah - a barbers shop on the premises, where we both got fresh short back & sides. Randomly selected haircuts like this are most often an exercise in damage limitation, but we escaped reasonably unscathed, and this should hold us till at least San Francisco.

Within the bands entourage (certainly by comparison to the crews clockwork scheduling) travel departure times are often a little loose. This morning was especially so, due to three contradictory memos which had been emailed out last night and this morning.

I was planning on resurrecting the tour diary today, being the day we were scheduled to fly to Auckland for the load-in tomorrow. However, its now old news that the remainder of the tour dates have been postponed, so Im not going anywhere further than the corner cafe. Its been a very weird week indeed - much akin to driving into a wall.
