Day Off - Monte Carlo

The 'Tardis' factor kicked in quite heavily today. Having arrived here under cover of darkness and got to bed at 5am, I was marginally surprised to fling back the curtains this morning (well, noon) and find myself looking out onto a sundrenched holiday beach scene. Gosh, the Riviera in full swing. I staggered down to our hotel's section of beach and found most of our touring party strewn over sunloungers in various states of undress. The sun, sea, sky, etc., was all rather gorgeous, but I was already struggling. Coming from full on touring work mode to be dropped into the middle of a vacation paradise with no warning came as such an extreme disconnect I found it easier not to engage with it.

I managed a nice lunch on the sea view terrace looking out at a thousand deep fried bottle blonde babes and early retired CEOs scampering about in G-strings against a back-drop of obscenely large yachts, then headed back to the comparative sanity of my room.

Within the bands entourage (certainly by comparison to the crews clockwork scheduling) travel departure times are often a little loose. This morning was especially so, due to three contradictory memos which had been emailed out last night and this morning.

There was a 6.30pm conference call arranged between Bono (Dublin), The Edge (Los Angeles), Steve Matthews (London) and myself (also London) to blow the cobwebs off our brains and discuss the reincarnation of the Vertigo Tour.

I was planning on resurrecting the tour diary today, being the day we were scheduled to fly to Auckland for the load-in tomorrow. However, its now old news that the remainder of the tour dates have been postponed, so Im not going anywhere further than the corner cafe. Its been a very weird week indeed - much akin to driving into a wall.
