Day Off - New York City

Another day off in New York, which is never a bad thing. Slept till noon again, of course, having been up till dawn, but still managed to cram enough into today not to make it feel like a complete waste. It was another steaming hot day in the city. Not, perhaps, as hot as a hairdryer in your face, but certainly something in that direction. A few of us took the "A" train way, way up town to the very northern tip of Manhattan island, where there is an outpost of the Metropolitan Museum of Art called "The Cloisters". It was built in the early part of last century from the cloisters of four or five ancient French monasteries, shipped over brick by brick. The result is more beautiful than you might imagine in a tranquil park location which makes it quite the little piece of heaven on a day like today. On the way back downtown we stopped off at the cathedral of St. John the Divine in Harlem, which is notable for its collection of contemporary art. It includes an altar piece by our very own Keith Haring which I was keen to see and wasn't disappointed.

Spent the evening down in Little Italy, where there was some major biker event happening. Never quite got to the bottom of exactly what was going on, but all these different biker groups, bearing their clan colours, were roaring about all over the place. They all seemed to be "Knights" of some description, "Blue Knights", "All Knighters" and the very scary "Nam Knights". It all seemed pretty harmless and besides, its hard to feel too intimidated by a guy in a Billy Joel T-shirt with deer antlers strapped to his crash helmet.

It looks like we will have to do our Tonight Show residency another time - we're one man down. Bono has injured his arm in a cycling spill in Central Park and requires some surgery to repair it. We're sure he'll make a full recovery soon, so we'll be back! Much thanks to Jimmy Fallon and everyone at the show for their understanding.
