Day off - Seattle

Paul Allen, of Microsoft billionaire fame, has built his own personal monument to rock and roll in downtown Seattle. Its called the Experience Music Project - part museum, part venue, part shrine, part theme mall - and this afternoon we were all invited down there for a guided tour by Paul Zumwalt who was the project manager when the place was being constructed last year. I'd been there before, in fact I designed a part of it, rather modestly called "Sky Church" (I didn't come up with the name, that was Jimi Hendrix's idea), but I hadn't been back since the place opened last June, so it was good to see how it had all turned out. There was also an exhibition of photographs from the 50's & 60's which I hadn't seen before - fabulous stuff of the Beatles, Elvis, etc. We had a good time, culminating with a guided tour of the bar.

In the evening Amanda & I slipped out to "Cutters" which is a great fish place down by Pike's Market. Smoked salmon chowder. Enough said. As we were leaving Bono arrived amid a throng of cute teenage girls (mostly his & The Edge's own progeny). They'd just been to see "Josie and the Pussycats", a movie which certainly wasn't top of my 'must see' list, but after his report I may just go. He described it as "delightfully subversive" & "PopMart on film" - playing with & exposing the ideas around product placement, blurring the lines between entertainment and advertising, and so on.

"Smoked salmon chowder", I said, enigmatically, and left.

Within the bands entourage (certainly by comparison to the crews clockwork scheduling) travel departure times are often a little loose. This morning was especially so, due to three contradictory memos which had been emailed out last night and this morning.

I was planning on resurrecting the tour diary today, being the day we were scheduled to fly to Auckland for the load-in tomorrow. However, its now old news that the remainder of the tour dates have been postponed, so Im not going anywhere further than the corner cafe. Its been a very weird week indeed - much akin to driving into a wall.
