'Distracted Lunacy...'

'Distracted Lunacy...'
Moscow. Day off.

It was raining on and off and I had work to do, so holed up in the hotel top floor lounge and stayed there for pretty much the whole day.   Dec and Smasher brought their machines, so we tucked ourselves away on some comfy couches in a corner and set up our video production suite.  It was very pleasant, various members of our touring party would come and join us for periods of time, which made it sociable as well as productive.  Dealing with the Russian text in the video pieces was challenging - I can only imagine how the live translator is going to get on tomorrow.

At the end of the afternoon, Frank De Winne came by to show us all a short movie that he had shot in space - essentially the video diary of his time on the space station.  It was fascinating of course and highly entertaining - home movies from space.  I was quite taken by the idea that at the end of the workday (18.00h, space time) the astronauts shut off the video link to earth so they can spend their evening unobserved.  Their days are busy with individual tasks but for the sake of group morale they make a point of eating together every evening.  There was footage of some of these meals and other 'off line' activities (such us them all making costumes and dressing up for Hallowe'en), which looked like such fun, all floating weightless in their tin can.  It was also greatly reminiscent of the kind of distracted lunacy that frequently goes on in the back lounge of a rock and roll tour bus.

It was looking highly likely that I would spend the entire day without leaving the hotel lounge but around 10pm Jussi, the tour physio, asked if anyone was up for going out to find some food so I joined him on the quest.  Rather improbably, we stumbled on a Tibetan restaurant which turned out to be quite wonderful, then that was about it for my day.
