Vertigo Leg 1: 2005, US

Load In, Sao Paulo
Landed in Sao Paulo at about 5.30am local time so felt like dog food and probably looked worse. Despite the luxury of private aviation it took us a staggering two and a half hours to get out of the airport. Firstly we found ourselves sitting on the tarmac for an hour for reasons unknown. I phoned my brother who was having a quiet Sunday morning in England (Happy birthday. Im in a Brazilian Airport). Once inside the terminal, the immigration hall was packed. There must have been 300 people in line with just two staff to deal with them. I think somebody feigned death, as eventually we went through the cabin crew channel, which sped our way to waiting another hour for our bags.

Once at the hotel, I commented I was ready to eat, to which Ned replied, Now all we have to figure out is whether we want breakfast, dinner or tea We settled for breakfast, after which a bath and a nap.

Got up bright and early at, er, 7pm to find it was a stormy looking day and wondered if I should go down to the gig. I made a call and found to my simultaneous concern and secret joy that one of the freight planes was delayed so load-in had been pushed back to midnight. The lads will be hating it, but it meant there was no point in my going down there tonight.

Instead had dinner with some of the 3D film crew which was productive and very pleasant. Theres just one pair of 3D cameras at the shows here and in Chile, before we go in for the kill in Buenos Aires. However, theres a 14-camera live Brazilian TV shoot tomorrow, plus a list of media photographers and film crews longer than your arm, so we can sleep soundly in the assurance that these shows will not go undocumented.

It looks like we will have to do our Tonight Show residency another time - we're one man down. Bono has injured his arm in a cycling spill in Central Park and requires some surgery to repair it. We're sure he'll make a full recovery soon, so we'll be back! Much thanks to Jimmy Fallon and everyone at the show for their understanding.
