'Mass Movement...'Travel day. Vienna - Athens.
Pretty fragile day, I'm a bit better but still all over the place and body still in shock post-food poisoning. I followed the crew sheep-like on the journey to Athens. Given the distance, it's another charter flight. There's about 130 crew in the universal team and it's remarkable to witness this mass movement be so seamless. Like a load-in, everybody knows where to be, what to do and when to do it. Lobby, check out, bags in the bays, on to buses, at the airport, check in, boarding passes, through security and straight to the closest bar to the gate.
I sat with Alex again and having watched The Third Man on the way to Vienna, we discussed what might be an appropriate movie to watch on the way to Athens. Jason and the Argonauts possibly, or anything involving Ray Harryhausen? Alex suggested Grease but that was just being silly and besides, by the time you're strapping into your seat on board the flight, your options are somewhat limited. In the end we went for Gosford Park which was thematically dubious but is a cracking movie.
We landed in Greece to blue skies and a temperature in the big fat Celcius thirties. You could feel tension and anxiety melting away from all in the touring party, all the more so when we got to the hotel which was exceptionally nice and gobbing distance from the Acropolis.
It didn't take long before the hang began at the rooftop pool bar and continued unabated for the rest of the night. I tucked up early as I'm still not right inside, but at least I'm not feeling poisoned any more and for that at least I am grateful.
