New York. Day off

New York City, imagine that. Having got here in the middle of the night, I rolled out of bed about 10. My routine was then completely thrown by not having a laptop and having erased all my stale voicemail messages a couple of days ago. Bruce has my computer, but the crew wouldnt have got into Manhattan till about 5am, so I wasnt going to call him till 2 at least. Went out to the diner over the road for a spot of nosebag and finding myself in the bizarre and disorientating position of not being able to do any work, I took a book which I have been carrying around since rehearsals in Vancouver. I bought it for my niece for Christmas (well, not this one, another copy, obviously) and thought it looked interesting so picked up one for myself. Its called 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time' and I sat in the Green Apple Diner on Broadway and read it from cover to cover. I think this is what is known as relaxing, but its been such a long time that its hard to judge precisely. This got me through to 2pm, close enough, so I headed down to the crew hotel and retrieved my computer, at which point the tsunami of tasks overwhelmed the rest of the day. Having deleted my voicemail and erased my e.mail in-tray I suppose all that remains is for me to fling my powerbook from the top of the Empire State Building and Ill be a free man. Momentarily, at least.

Within the bands entourage (certainly by comparison to the crews clockwork scheduling) travel departure times are often a little loose. This morning was especially so, due to three contradictory memos which had been emailed out last night and this morning.

I was planning on resurrecting the tour diary today, being the day we were scheduled to fly to Auckland for the load-in tomorrow. However, its now old news that the remainder of the tour dates have been postponed, so Im not going anywhere further than the corner cafe. Its been a very weird week indeed - much akin to driving into a wall.
