'Prune'

19 July 2011
'Prune'
New York.  Day off.

It feels like New York is starting to melt, as it was 34C/93F for much of the day. I went down to the room at our hotel allocated as the guest ticket pick up office only to find that their air-conditioning was on the blink. I’d only popped in to pick up a couple of passes for tomorrow night, but a more unhappy, red-faced crew I haven’t seen in a while.

Mercifully I had something approaching an actual day off and headed to the Lower East Side for lunch with friends. Whilst not a rabid foodie I do enjoy a good meal and had been recommended this place ('Prune') as being a place where the chefs hang out after work. It’s a tiny little place, lo-fi, unpretentious with a small menu, but serving dishes that seem disproportionately delicious given their apparent simplicity. Loved it.

Much of our touring party seems to have gone to ground. Tomorrow’s going to be a massive day for all – the big ‘New York’ show in a brand new venue - so I think everybody’s lying low and bracing themselves for the onslaught.
