Santiago pre-show - Elastic failure

Santiago pre-show - Elastic failure. A vital rubber band from the lemon is broken. Will the replacement arrive in time?

U2 seem certain to hold on to their crown as "daftest band in rock", having not only arranged and paid for the manufacture of the biggest video screen on earth, but having done so have seen fit to drive it over the Andes. I went down to the venue this afternoon, to take a look at the state of the equipment, but actually all seemed to be well, with just one exception. The vital elastic band in the Lemon had broken, rendering it unable to revolve or open properly. Being a fairly major elastic band, no replacements were being carried, or available for purchase in Chile, so even as I write, a keen young man is making the dash here from London with a new part. He's due in at 2.30 tomorrow, show day, which will make for a very exciting afternoon. We can only hope that he isn't delayed...

Within the bands entourage (certainly by comparison to the crews clockwork scheduling) travel departure times are often a little loose. This morning was especially so, due to three contradictory memos which had been emailed out last night and this morning.

There was a 6.30pm conference call arranged between Bono (Dublin), The Edge (Los Angeles), Steve Matthews (London) and myself (also London) to blow the cobwebs off our brains and discuss the reincarnation of the Vertigo Tour.

I was planning on resurrecting the tour diary today, being the day we were scheduled to fly to Auckland for the load-in tomorrow. However, its now old news that the remainder of the tour dates have been postponed, so Im not going anywhere further than the corner cafe. Its been a very weird week indeed - much akin to driving into a wall.
