Show day: Denver - Pepsi Center

Show day: Denver - Pepsi Center
A hell of a commute pretty much sums up the day, as we flew from L.A. to Denver, did the show and returned immediately afterwards. Still, the good citizens of Colorado gave us an outstanding welcome which left a man feeling it had all been well worth the journey. Denver supplied the crowd noise for portions of both U2's "Under a Blood Red Sky" and "Rattle & Hum" albums and of course the whole of the Red Rocks gig was videoed for posterity, and now features in many meteorology text books worldwide as an extreme example of how much water can fall out of the sky in a 24 hour period.

It was a little sad not to be back in McNichols Arena where we shot the black and white portions of the Rattle & Hum movie, but it turns out that this new facility is a really great arena, and of course has a much more romantic name. I love these buildings where there's an unbroken sweep of seats around the whole of the arena - particularly as I am using the entire audience as a projection surface for parts of the show. They were a particularly loud audience too which always adds fuel to the fire.

It was ridiculous o'clock in the morning by the time we got back to Hollywood, and the band have to be up with the lark to shoot a video, bless 'em. I on the other hand seem to be coming down with the Tour Cold, so will hopefully not emerge till considerably later.

Within the bands entourage (certainly by comparison to the crews clockwork scheduling) travel departure times are often a little loose. This morning was especially so, due to three contradictory memos which had been emailed out last night and this morning.

I was planning on resurrecting the tour diary today, being the day we were scheduled to fly to Auckland for the load-in tomorrow. However, its now old news that the remainder of the tour dates have been postponed, so Im not going anywhere further than the corner cafe. Its been a very weird week indeed - much akin to driving into a wall.
