Show day: Houston - Compaq Center
Ah ha! You can't fool us with your corporate jive - we know that this is really the Summit Arena in Houston and to prove it there's a big framed picture of a very youthful looking U2 on the wall of the corridor outside the production office.

Another good show tonight, made all the more special by the arrival of P.J.Harvey. She missed the first four shows due to being a bit 'Tom & Dick', but is back in full flight now. She was really REALLY great. I love her latest incarnation which seems to encompass several of the personae she's experimented with over the past ten years; the spangly frock, playing guitar, a funny little keyboard thing & a very nice touch in wearing her ear monitor battery pack strapped to her bicep like a tournquet. Kind of looked like an audio drip feed.

The crowd liked her but the greatest testament to her performance was that half the U2 crew was watching from the mosh pit. I was one of them - I happily abandoned my pre-show routine and watched her entire performance from right in front of the stage. It won't be the last time I do it, either.

Not since the Pixies toured with U2 have I felt quite such a thrill at being offered a nightly 'private view' of a band I love. I think I even heard the first click of the Zen Viewmaster. Can hardly wait for tomorrow...

Within the bands entourage (certainly by comparison to the crews clockwork scheduling) travel departure times are often a little loose. This morning was especially so, due to three contradictory memos which had been emailed out last night and this morning.

There was a 6.30pm conference call arranged between Bono (Dublin), The Edge (Los Angeles), Steve Matthews (London) and myself (also London) to blow the cobwebs off our brains and discuss the reincarnation of the Vertigo Tour.

I was planning on resurrecting the tour diary today, being the day we were scheduled to fly to Auckland for the load-in tomorrow. However, its now old news that the remainder of the tour dates have been postponed, so Im not going anywhere further than the corner cafe. Its been a very weird week indeed - much akin to driving into a wall.
