Show Day: London Earls Court, Show One
Turns out that doing my gig tonight was a mere interruption in the real business of the day, which was dealing with my unfeasibly large guest list. Its always nice to see friends come to shows but on a day like today you can't help but think fondly back to those club shows in Vladivostok where you didn't know a soul within 10,000 miles. I seriously considered tossing my phone into the Thames rather than face yet another call from vague acquaintances last seen in 1964 suddenly wanting to be my best friends. Then of course there were my actual best friends, which still seemed to entail a further string of calls regarding the exact location of the venue / ticket office / guest list / entrance / hospitality area / bus stop. Bless 'em. No matter, all was well in the end and our Earls Court opening night was a blinder. This is a big old barn of a place with a rich history of legendary rock shows and, err, Ideal Home Exhibitions. It has a very high ceiling w which leaves something to be desired sonically, but it does mean that shows tend to look very good in here. Compared to the NEC last week this was positively cavernous and I was delighted with the way the show filled the space.
