Polly's back. P.J.Harvey, who opened for U2 right the way through the first U.S. leg of the tour made a return to the Elevation stage for a one night stand tonight. Hopefully she'll respect us in the morning, as we will certainly respect her. She's still absolutely on fire and I so enjoyed seeing the band play again. I was standing in the heart whilst they ripped through their set and just loved it. It also struck me that it seemed an eternity since I last saw them. The American leg now seems like it was centuries ago on a distant planet. Polly's amazing there's no-one like her. I'm really looking forward to seeing her at her own gig some time soon.

Kevin Godley, video maker extraordinaire, was at the show with his wife Sue. Since working with the U2 on the "Even Better Than the Real Thing" video they have become part of the family and it's always a real pleasure to see them. After the show we ended up sharing a minibus back to the hotel (the glamour of it all) and on arrival went to the lounge bar in search of toasted sandwiches. The hotel came up with the goods, with Larry joining us for a while too. Kevin had me in stitches with his critique of the psycho-metal band Slipknot "saving the world via the donning of long noses". (OK, I guess you had to be there.)

Within the bands entourage (certainly by comparison to the crews clockwork scheduling) travel departure times are often a little loose. This morning was especially so, due to three contradictory memos which had been emailed out last night and this morning.

There was a 6.30pm conference call arranged between Bono (Dublin), The Edge (Los Angeles), Steve Matthews (London) and myself (also London) to blow the cobwebs off our brains and discuss the reincarnation of the Vertigo Tour.

I was planning on resurrecting the tour diary today, being the day we were scheduled to fly to Auckland for the load-in tomorrow. However, its now old news that the remainder of the tour dates have been postponed, so Im not going anywhere further than the corner cafe. Its been a very weird week indeed - much akin to driving into a wall.
