Show day: San Jose - Arena 1st night

Show day: San Jose - Arena 1st night
Going home for a couple of nights in the middle of a tour can be extremely disorientating. It was certainly great to be here, but I found it very hard to sleep last night - partly excitement and partly because of all the domestic things to think about, which you never enter you rhead when you're on tour. Consequently, felt like the dog's dinner when I headed to San Jose this morning. Being a man who could answer Dione Warwick's question very much in the affirmative, I drove myself to San Jose, which made a pleasant change from the usual daily grind of sleek black limousines and police escorts. It was good to be at the gig early too, as there were some changes and developments to make. The video system is run by Stefaan who, for reasons which now escape me, we have always known as "Smasher". (Most likely because we have another staff member called Stefaan - clearly a popular name in Belgium). We added some new texture sequences to "Streets", revamped "The Fly" a little and started adding some text to Charleton Heston. The band did a lengthy soundcheck and worked on a couple of potential new set list additions. Its good to keep things moving on. I had rakes of guests at the show, of course, being the closest thing to a home gig (one day they'll build a decent arena sized concert venue in San Francisco). Afterwards we were pleasantly surprised to find that the truck drivers were hosting a barbecue in the loading dock, so we partied in the bus compound for a while. Simple pleasures - these being the benefits of multiple night stands at any given venue. Stayed too late then bailed for San Fran.
