Show Day: Toronto - Air Canada Centre, 1st night
First day back in the saddle, so we were all feeling slightly rusty, but we are sufficiently in the swing of things now to be able to pick up pretty much where we left off. Coming back after this first break marks the crossing of a great psychological hurdle in that it doesn't feel like the beginning of the tour any more. In fact the end of the North American leg suddenly feels like its within striking distance.
I'm a bit of a fan of Canada and have always enjoyed coming here. It also happens that, per capita, Canada is one of U2's highest selling territories so we didn't anticipate any problems with the gig, despite us all being just a little out of practice. Much to my surprise I spotted Harrison Ford on the guest platform in front of me just as the show was starting and the band were steaming into Elevation. Cor! I thought, Star Wars! Indiana Jones! And of course, greatest of all, Deckard from Bladerunner, which happens to be my favourite film of all time. I didn't see him again and haven't the slightest idea what he was doing in Toronto, but it made my night.
