Show day: Vancouver - General Motors Place

Oh Canada, how loud thou art. Bono told the audience that it was 20 years ago almost to the day since U2 first came to Vancouver (March 25th 1981, as it happens) to play a place called the Commodore Ballroom. The crowd responded with a roar which continued for the rest of the gig. We had a great night.

I had fun - now that the show has settled down a bit, there's space to experiment with some new ideas, new looks, new cues. After the success of the PiGi projectors in Tacoma I worked with Brian our projectionist on a couple of new things. My favourite cue in the whole show at the moment is the projected writing at the end of Walk On - it always looks good, the words snaking and sliding their way over the audience and up the walls of the arena.

This is the home town of Bruce our lighting director. He had 56 guests tonight.

Within the bands entourage (certainly by comparison to the crews clockwork scheduling) travel departure times are often a little loose. This morning was especially so, due to three contradictory memos which had been emailed out last night and this morning.

I was planning on resurrecting the tour diary today, being the day we were scheduled to fly to Auckland for the load-in tomorrow. However, its now old news that the remainder of the tour dates have been postponed, so Im not going anywhere further than the corner cafe. Its been a very weird week indeed - much akin to driving into a wall.
