'Turbo Pipe'

'Turbo Pipe'
Travel Day.  San Sebastian to Seville.

Apparently it was the turbo pipe.  I don€™t know what a turbo pipe is, but I have now learned that when one goes clunk, the bus stops.  We sat on the roadside for a couple of hours, they told me, til someone came to fix it, but by the time I crawled out of my womb all was speed and efficiency once again.

As I woke up we were just pulling into a little truck stop, which was a bit of luck, so I stretched my legs for a minute.  We were still four hours out from Seville and once we got going again we were rolling through wide-open spaghetti western countryside.  It was rather arid-looking, with occasional olive trees and small, white, stone houses but all under blue skies with sunshine and long, thin, wispy white clouds.  It€™s warming up too, so the crew will be glad of some dry weather.

On arrival in Seville, the hotel was a bit of a let down but for all its failings it did have a rather nice outdoor pool area complete with adjacent bar.  Needless to say, this is where much of our touring party gravitated towards on arrival.   Due to the general strike on Wednesday we will have a full day off here and if the weather is nice I predict that it could get pretty messy.  We shall see.

Jumped a cab into town with a few of my tour comrades for the evening and found a wonderful outdoor spot to eat.  I€™m looking forward to exploring this place over the next couple of days.

Within the bands entourage (certainly by comparison to the crews clockwork scheduling) travel departure times are often a little loose. This morning was especially so, due to three contradictory memos which had been emailed out last night and this morning.

There was a 6.30pm conference call arranged between Bono (Dublin), The Edge (Los Angeles), Steve Matthews (London) and myself (also London) to blow the cobwebs off our brains and discuss the reincarnation of the Vertigo Tour.

I was planning on resurrecting the tour diary today, being the day we were scheduled to fly to Auckland for the load-in tomorrow. However, its now old news that the remainder of the tour dates have been postponed, so Im not going anywhere further than the corner cafe. Its been a very weird week indeed - much akin to driving into a wall.
