Woke up in Hollywood. As you do. Felt like I'd been run over by a truck, but have at least caught up on some sleep.
It's a fairly easy day for me. The stage is loading in to the rehearsal venue today to be worked on some more. The rings of L.E.D. lighting fixtures which are built into the stage require a lot of fine-tuning so as not to interfere with any other equipment. Mysterious juju and radio waves can do very strange things (Early on, if you stood on stage and spoke into a walkie-talkie some of the lights would come on.) This evening I am going out to look at big lights for the European outdoor production, but had the day free so Bruce and I wandered out Melrose way. We were both pretty toasted, so settled for a spot of brekky at a place called Urth which served up the most over designed version of poached-egg-on-toast I've ever encountered. Frankly, it was dreadful, but I felt vaguely compensated by noticing the Mael brothers from Sparks sitting at the next table. They were looking pretty good, given that I remember seeing them on Top of the Pops thirty years ago.
Next stop was a spectacular new age book store, which stocked a jaw-dropping range of utterly cosmic literature. 'Yoga for Dogs' was inspiring, 'Trust your Vibes' was enchanting if a little obvious, but the hands-down winner was a packaged 'course in DNA activation' which took psycho-babble into a new dimension ('DNA is a bridge between Matter and the Divine. It is the gateway through which Spirit emerges into form. It is a multi-dimensional portal to the superluminal field of the 12 dimensions and beyond. No Risk 14 day free trial offer.') Crick and Watson would turn in their graves. Diana Ross was in there too. I tell you its glamour all the way, here in West Hollywood.
