The French people around us did not stan
I remember me and my friend Richard whil I knew from The Bulls Head pub in Woodhouse Eaves tanking it down the M1 from Leicester in Blue Ford Escort Mark II. It was foggy we were stuck in a traffic jam and had to get to the Tower Thistle where our 'package trip' was departing from. We screeched into the tower bang on departure time - noticed the parking was going to be 50 quid for the weekend and miraculously - I have no idea how - managed to park in a street not far away without any parking meters. This just would not happen today and I still can't quite beleive it - anyway I soon stopped worrying about the car - we JUST got on the coach - they had called our name twice already. Stayed a dodgy travel lodge outside Paris - all we cared about was going to see U2. This was my third time - I still have the framed ticket. God knows what happened to my t-shirt. BBKing was brilliant - I remember lots of candles and a lovely backlit stage with waves of light. We were jumping up and down possessed and the people round us, especially behind just kept tutting and saying sit down! Can you believe it - it was a riot near the stage - everyone letting go and the one thing I always remember is that all the people round us were sat down. Don't know what happened to the t-shirt. LOVED this one - I still love Desire now and Angel of Harlem now - this was a different U2 era but as memorable and exhilerating as always.

Foreign Shores
No gigs in the UK this time around so there was a massive exodus of U2 fans to foreign shores. With 3 mates in tow, we travelled by road and ferry to Paris to a fantastic indoor arena. BB King was supered as support before the boys took to the stage. Fantastic gig with the introduction of the new material off Rattle and Hum, Silver & Gold and the awesome All i want being highlights for me. Then to travel home and await the live broadcast of the New Years Eve gig from the Point in Dublin on Radio 1, what a christmas and new year......
