Me, my Dad & Stephen McCarthy
I was 13, with my Dad and a friend from school, and this was the first concert I’d ever been to. I’ll never forget the moment my Dad got the tickets after holding on a pay phone in town for what felt like hours - definitely the closest I’ve ever had to a golden ticket feeling. The gig itself was massive, I was obsessed with U2, achtung baby especially, and it was all quite hard to believe that I was in the same space (albeit a huge stadium) as my Irish rock star heroes. I remember the oversized papier-mâché heads, the buzz as people arrived and then Bono’s famous Zoo TV karate kick entrance. Everything after that’s a bit of a blur! If only I could re-live that night again...amazing. And I bought some Fly glasses (which I still have) and some U2 condoms (which I don’t) that my older brother later nicked, but as a 13 year old I had no use for them!

Achtung! Where did the time go baby?!
August the 12th, 1993. I was 13 years old and I remember in the weeks leading up to the gig, not quite believing that I would soon be seeing the band that made Achtung Baby, live. My dad took the day off work to come with me and I made him leave extra early so that we wouldn't be stranded at the back of the stadium. The size of the show blew me away, with screens and trabants flashing everywhere. But at the heart of it was soulful, powerful music, plus me and my dad. An amazing night and a special memory - thank you U2.

My first live concert, what a way to sta
Wembley stadium. My first concert, my favourite band. I remember the size of wembley and the stage. I remember crazy lights, words, music, U2, the confession box with black/white zebra pattern, U2 condoms - does anyone remember these? No band can ever match a U2 live concert and no band has ever come close. And going home, I remember being in a field trying to get out of wembley. We were all stuck for hours, everyone was playing U2 & singing - it was one big U2 after show party.. U2, one request. Do Zooropa again :)
