U2360° TOUR

Jul 7 2009
Milan, IT / San Siro

Bit of a party night tonight, celebrating the birthday of Bono's daughter Eve, who was up on stage for Party Girl. Felt like the band were looser and more at ease on the stage, finding their feet as 360 gets underway. Were you at the show ? Some highlights from us below, add your own highlights at the bottom of the page.

1. The Space Ship felt like it was taller than the San Siro itself tonight. The discoball on top was actually higher than the roof of the stadium.

2. As the band arrived on stage fans on the floor gave them a distinctive and colourful welcome - holding up orange, green and white balloons. The audience was so loud by 'No Line', it was hard to make out what Bono was saying.

3. 'How do you like our Space Junk ? We think it's somewhere between a spaceship and a cactus flower...'

4. The set list was different again to the first two nights.

5. Bono Introduces Angel of Harlem as 'a song for Billie Holiday, tonight we dedicate it to Michael Jackson.' and ends it segueing into 'man in the mirror' before slipping into 'Stand by Me'.

6. Feels like the band are still working out how to live on the huge new stage. Still experimenting with how to connect with everyone in 360. Adam spent all of Beautiful Day out on the b-stage runway. Larry looks to be enjoying his nightly lap of honour with the djembe for 'Crazy'

7. At the beginning of Party Girl, Bono asks the audience to welcome his daughter Eve on stage, 'not the shy one in the family'. 'Wanna sing for my little girl Eve.' he explains. 'It's her birthday today. She's no longer a little girl but older and a beauty.' A stadium join the band in singing Eve happy birthday and Larry does the honours on the champagne, pouring glasses for father and daughter.

8. Plenty of famous faces at the show tonight including actors Woody Harrelson and Gael Garcia Bernal, designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana and Nicoletta Mantovani, the widow Luciano Pavarotti.

9. The leaders of the G8 meet in Italy this week, which offered a timely way into One tonight: 'It is well known that I have had some differences with your prime minister over promises that were made and not kept to the world's poor. Italians have given so many gifts to the world... modern physics.. the renaissance.. the piano... the gift of song... from Puccini to Luciano Pavarotti to Jovanotti. In the next few days, at the G8, your leader will decide where he stands on the gift of life for people far beyond your shores. If you think he should do what he promised for the poorest and most vunerable in Africa, you need to let him know because he is not Increasing aid as he said he would. He is slashing it. Do you think he should do what he promised? He still can. Tomorrow. Thursday. Friday. We'll be waiting to see if he does. I write songs... Berlusconi gets to write history... it's not too late for his chapter to end with dignity... I want to dedicate this song for him... it's called ONE.'

10. There was more, much more.... but why don't you tell us what it was ?

one word: AMAZING!
It was amazing! Bono singing party girl to his daughter just gave the concert a special fling. I was in Zagreb too and it wasn't as good as in Milan. I managed to enter the ring around the stage, and I can say that this was unforgettable experience.

A Magnificent night
July 7th was the first U2 concert of Lorenzo, my 8 years old son. He is still remembering that night, he was so crazy that night! I was so proud to see them in Milano with my son, 24 years later my first U2 concert - on Feb, 2nd 1985 - and it was the first of a long long long list of U2 concerts for me. Hope it will be the same for him (and me with him...)

Thanks for spending the money guys!
I have no idea how much the monster stage has cost you. I hope the extra tickets make it worth it for you also economically. But I have to tell you: for us, the fans, it's THE MOST AMAZING AND PRICELESS THING you ever came up with (ok, aside from your best music). I have now been to 8 or 9 of your gigs in the last 20 years, and so many more of other artists, and I have never, ever been able to enjoy a concert as much (except maybe that one time I managed to be in the first row at a concert when I was 15!). I am petite, and have a job, so I can't usually get there early. So I end up being in the middle, I get crushed, can't breathe, my neck hurts, I have to time my drinking because god forbid I should need the bathroom...and only get small glimpses of the band. The only alternative used to be getting numbered seats and miss the excitement of being closer to the action. So, well, I just wanted to say THANK YOU. Not just for the music, but for always thinking of your fans.

speechless...
weeks on, there are no words that can describe what i felt that magic night, 8th July... Being an Ac Milan fan everything was that little bit more special! thank you for filling my life with emotions and passion through your music! U2 ticket 109 euro, bus to Milan 42 euro, Bono dissing Berlusclown in the San Siro? Priceless! I have a dream... Thank you Anto (Rimini)

'Insane' Night
Not only was the 'Spacestation' spectacular, but the evening was electric. I came all the way from California to see this show and I was not disappointed. The San Siro Stadium shook all night and an estimated 100,000 stood the entire night to watch one of the greatest bands perform one of the greatest concerts. It will only get better from here.

Such a beatiful nigth, as the others when you and I were in the same part of the world. My highligths: 1. Larry standing and playing the drums 2. Edge beating his foot and playing the guitar 3. Adam completly absorbed playing the bass 4. Bono's "Wow" at our "With or without you" The show ended too early. P.S.: I did not vote Berlusconi. Ciao ed un bacio a tutti!!! Cloelia/Valeria

Only love...
This is the 5th time I've seen U2 live and it's always been amazing. I really appreciate the way they always add something new to their performance and their music. I hope Adam, Bono, Edge and Larry felt that we were there for them and we were loud enough to make it a wonderful and unforgettable night. There's nothing that could keep me away from a U2 show. Ciao Manu - wish I had my voice back ;)

GREAT ROCK
THE GREATEST. ENERGY IS LIKE 20 YEARS AGO. THE SHOW IS GALACTIC FOR THE WODERFUL SCENE BUT THE MUSICAL SET IS ESSENTIAL . THANK YOU FOR "PARTY GIRL" AND "UNFORGETTABLE FIRE". LIVE VERSION OF "GET ON YOUR BOOTS" IS BETTER THAN STUDIO VERSION. I DON'T LIKE ONLY THE DISCO BOMB FOR "I'LL GO CRAZY IF I DON'T GO CRAZY TONIGHT". IT'S A WONDERFUL SONG. SING IT WITHOUT BOOM BOOM REMIX!

Bono: a great voice again!!
I really enjoyed the show. Bono has a great, mean voice now. Like I havent heard maybe since the 80's!!! Great show! I was in the GA standing places and I could see a double show: the band in front of me and the crowd all around and very high above me! Amazing they played gems like In a Little While, Unforgettable Fire and Ultraviolet. Only one not so good thing: Moment of Surrender is not a great closing for the show. It leaves you with a unsatisfied need of jumping and screaming. IMHO I think It would be better to end the show with a more powerful song. BTW: BRAVO HOO DOO-A!!!! (U2 in italian spelling)
