U2360° TOUR

Jul 30 2011
Moncton, NB, CA / Magnetic Hill Music Festival
with Carney, Arcade Fire

'Moncton, Hub City, where you gonna take us tonight?'

Moncton in Atlantic Canada was going to take us to the end of the world tonight, and then even further, to the end of U2360°,  the most successful concert tour of all time.

Two years after opening up in Barcelona in June, 2009 tonight the band played their final show in a record-breaking tour of  110 concerts  in 30 countries across 5 continents. It's been some ride and the fact it had rained all day and was moist underfoot here in Moncton was not going to stop anyone  in this 75,000-strong audience making this a night to remember.

A breathtaking flyover from the  Canadian Airforce  set the scene before the show along with  powerful opening sets from Carney and the one and only Arcade Fire.

'Extraordinary band, give it up for Carney,' said Bono, after Get On Your Boots.  'I don't know if there's vocabulary in English or French  to describe Arcade Fire. They asked to play here as they have a relationship with you guys. They're not like a band, more like a miraculous event, carnival of chaos...'

Six songs in and Moncton had put the 360° spaceship into orbit for one final trip: 'This is the best time we could be having anywhere,' explained Bono, adding that the band wanted to make the most of the fact that this is the end of the tour. 'Eighteen babies, two marriages in the crew, eight separations... over 7 million served!'

And the best thing about this remarkable structure they've played under night after night ? It has no roof, 'but that's because it won't rain - right?'

On bass guitar tonight, we had Adam Clayton. On drums, 'the man who gave us our first job', Larry Mullen. On guitar? 'People like to remind us that without Edge we'd be nothing... but without us, he'd still be in his room twiddling knobs.'
And at the microphone: 'My name is Bono, I'm a work in progress...'

'I have climbed highest mountains
I have run through the fields...'

The end of 'Still Haven't Found' segued into The Ballad of Springhill while the lyrics of 'Stay' were customised for the occasion.

'110 shows, strangely it feels like home
Glad my wife is here tonight, not a night to be alone
Just a bang and a clatter, as 360 leaves town...'

The night, like this tour, raced by. Special thanks to Live Nation, Universal Music, Principle Management and the unrivalled 360 Crew gave way to Moment of Surrender which was not to be the final song of the tour.
' We're a band from Dublin, Ireland. We're called U2..'
Out of Control, the band's first single,  was an inspired way to bring things to a close.
'A higher than high here, out on the Atlantic Coast
Larry Mullen, Adam Clayton, Bono, The Edge... still... out of control.'

But there was one final piece of inspiration, marrying this legendary tour to the band's earliest tours. A bottle of champagne was found for Bono to uncork and the band left this audience, singing with so many others,  as the night came to an end.

'How long to sing this song
How long to sing this song ...'

Bono, Edge and Adam waited at the back of the stage for Larry to end '40' and once he did, he took the mike at the front of the stage; 'We'll miss you guys, Goodnight!'

With that the four members of U2, arms around each other, took a final bow and the U2360° spaceship was gone.

As Sandie put it on the U2.com online text feed, '360 has taken off to space! See you soon boys!'

OK,' chimed M31, 'I have to get back to my own galaxy, been away for two years now but it was worth it...'

Were you at the final night of the tour tonight? Was it your first U2 show - or your 101st? Tell us what it was like. Add your own review and post your photos below.

FAMILY REUNION
So I called my cousin only to be teased that the last time he heard from me is when we travelled from Ontario to Moncton to see the final 360 show. We have made it a tradition to see U2 on tour since the Joshua Tree tour in 1987. I told him that I'm going to ask the band to go on tour soon not only for our love of Bono, Adam, Larry, and the Edge but so we can have a family reunion. Keep on Rockin' the free World!

U22 Day Memories
Moncton was the experience of a life time. I will never forget it. The concert was incredible...rainy all day waiting for GA but front rail inner circle was SO worth the wait. I can't describe the feeling of hearing U2 close the show with '40'. It was an emotional end to an incredible tour that countinued back on the camp grounds where U2 friends- all who met eachother on different legs of the tour sat together untill the wee hours of the morning sharing our most memorable U2 tour experiences. We actually had a bottle of wine named '360' and passed it around the circle..each person took a drink and shared a moment or memory from their U2 experience. We laughed and cried together as we listened to everyone's stories.. I will treasure that night foever..I have seen U2 live many times but never had an experience like this one. For the first time instead of heading home after the concert I was able to share in the experience with others and release all of joy, excitment and emotion ..making it the ultimate experience. Thankyou U2 for a life changing experience that I will never forget.

First U2 Concert
What a concert experience. I was so excited to finally experience U2 live since I became a big fan of their music fifteen years ago as a youth. I was only feet away from Larry, Adam, Bono and The Edge. Any time I hear David Bowie's Space Oddity, I am taken back to that instant U2 entered the stage. Any time I watch or listen to a clip of that concert, I am overcome with the same emotion, excitement and joy that I had that entire night. Waiting in line for four hours in the pouring rain could not be a damper on my enthusiasm and pure happiness of being there! I am also so glad that the band decided to stop by the Maritimes for a show, it made my year! Thank you again U2, and I can't wait for the next tour to start up so I can plan another amazing concert experience!

Thank you
I have to thank U2 for coming to Moncton. The Maritimes don\'t get many big shows. I also want to ask U2 to please come back next tour sometime and somewhere in the Maritimes. Thanks Larry, Adam, Edge and Bono!

Moncton
WOW. I have been a fan of U2 all my life. This was the first time i\'ve ever been to a concert. My dad saw the 360 tour 4 times and said this concert was by far the best. It was just my dad and I. I have been waiting all my life to go to a U2 concert. I remember asking my dad to take me to a U2 concert when I was 3 years old. I have to make sure that i see U2 every time they tour. They are BY FAR the best band EVER!

Slainte! \'til the next time
The obsession started with the Joshua Tree tour at the Big O in Montreal. We\'ve followed you to other Canadian cities, even Croke Park! Now, you were in my neck of the woods...Moncton, NB! A hop, skip & a jump from Halifax. Guys, it must have been the Luck of the Irish for that rain to stop, but rain or shine, we would\'ve been there to sing along with you. That was the most amazing show ever! Goodbye is never easy, that\'s why I say \'see ya later\'. Hurry...rest up, get creative and can\'t wait to join you on the next adventure. Slainte! Kim

First for me, didn\'t want the night to
I\'ve been to concerts before but I hadn\'t expected the energy my wife and I felt at the final show of the 360 Tour. It was breath taking to say the least. We sang, we danced, we drank just as the Irish do. Thank you for this memorable occasion, come back soon, we miss U2. William Shakespeare I love thee, I love but thee With a love that shall not die Till the sun grows cold And the stars grow old. Enjoy your vacation, you earned it! Keith & Kelly

MEMORABLE !
A Christmas gift for my 16 years old son (but truly for me)... MONTREAL JULY 8, VIPTickets, great reception in the VIPLoundge. Winning the prize that everyone there were praying to win... VIP Back-stage pass and private visit! AMAZING and IMPRESSIVE ... we got to go ON THE STAGE and feel the space from your point of vue but also DISAPPOINTING because we DIDN''T HAVE the chance of meeting you guys during the visit... An amazing performance by four teenaged best friends, still going strong, with 80 000 people in the palm of your hand. MAGICAL concert ending to the very end with heavy rain and blow out winds but still I was showing the biggest SMILE anyway... MONTREAL JULY 9... Standing at your feet, so close we could almost touch you and were definitely feeling the MUSIC from the inside, breathing your intense energy, singing with you... WOW ! …Last minute twist and we were there in MONCTON JULY 30… What an EMOTIONAL FAIRWELL SHOW ! Nothing but WOW ! In the inner circle again… absorbing this special Aura surrounding you ! DEFINITELY worth the one year wait.... allthough had to deal with chemotherapy… now I’m OK ! THANK GOD for being there with my son and giving him the chance to see for himself why U2’s the best of the best, and why I’ve been a fan for 27 years now. THANK YOU U2 ! I’ll never forget it ! And now guys, please take care of yourselves ! Can’t wait to see you again in a couple of years ! Lorraine (Rimouski, Québec, Canada)

Absolutely Amazing
This tour was the first time I was able to see U2. I saw them in Montreal and Moncton. Both shows were absolutely breath-taking. But, being at the last show of the tour was something special. I was in the inner circle in Moncton so felt like I was right on the stage with the band. I was also celebrating my 25th birthday! I want to thank U2 for coming to Atlantic Canada. We do not get many big acts out that way and to have the biggest tour of all time stop and give the people a chance to be a part of it was fantastic. Every part of the show was my most memorable moment. Loved the way it was ended though!!! I have many pictures and it is hard to pick just one to post. Thank you U2 for making July on of the best months of my life. I will never forget a moment of it

Moncton!!!!!!!
This was my first U2 concert and I had the best time of my life!!! The rain stopped just in time for us and the band was amazing!!!!! Thank you U2 for singing a part of The Ballad Of Springhill and paying tribute to my little town and all the men who lost their lives in the Cumerland Mine. It meant more than you will know!!!! Please, come back soon!!!

Anxiously waiting for the next tour...
I remember hearing my first U2 song, Sunday Bloody Sunday, 12 years ago when I was 14 yrs old. To be there and see them perform that song was an amazing moment. Ive loved them ever since and to finally see them was surreal, amazing, a dream come true.

Worth the 7000 mile roundtrip from the u
To think i had the tickets for this show since they were released in february, but only decided to sod it and go the week before! All i can say is that i would have lived to regret it for the rest of my life if i didnt go. Absolutely amazing! Had been to 3 other 360 shows before this (not that many i know, compared to some people i spoke to while queuing since 6.30am in the pouring rain!), but this was head and shoulders above them, and thats saying something as 1 of the 3 id went to was the cardiff 1, and being welsh, that was pretty special. The poignancy of it being the last 1 of the tour, the performance, and the fact i managed to get in to the inner circle for the 1st time, made it a night i will never forget. Just hope its not too long before they come round again

U2 MONCTON JULY 30TH FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC
Moncton ...Town of Monks (LOL-as Bono put it ) ..what a surreal night. My first U2 concert and it totally blew my expectations. It was a bittersweet celebration - the very last show of the 360 tour. Glad I was there and merci U2 for coming to Atlantic Canada!! You are such brilliant artists - soooo good. God has looked you full in the face ... and you have prospered :) . (p.s. thanks for introducing us to Carney - wonderful sound). Peace to all.

A dream came true in Moncton
I had a dream...to see and hear U2 live... at least once, in my lifetime. When I found out they will come to our humble part of the world... it felt so unreal. The Moncton show was colossal, amazing and unforgettable. U2 showed their incredible generosity in a show no words can describe. Thank you Bono, Edge, Larry and Adam. Take good care of yourselves. We will miss you. Hope to see you back soon. Love. L.

Still buzzing two days later
What a show... The energy that the the crowd and the members of U2 delivered that evening was incredible and you can still feel it around Moncton, 2 days after the concert. I think that buzz will be around for quite a while. Thank you U2 for a memorable moment !

Moncton Show
Thanks for an amazing day! We got to meet Bono and The Edge at the airpot where Edge signed an autograph for us. Despite the mud and the rain, the night was perfect! It was an incredible show that words cannot describe! Thank you for coming! You are welcome back anytime!

After going through a time warp and 600 miles to get to the spaceship, it was an awesome time. Great show! Sorry to see you go. See you next tour! Missing You Already, D

Awesome picture in U2.com´s cover page. 360º tour was my first concert. Actually, I have no words to describe how fantastic was to see U2 performing live! Hope to see you soon boys, but understand that you all need a rest.

Ground control to Major Tom...
The rain, the mud, the human traffic jams just added to the experience of a lifetime. Bigger than life. Arcade Fire, the 3 jet fly-overs. Then the stars came out. Every song U2 played was as if it was their last time. Bono was obviously emotional. The show pulled out all the stops, from the clip from the space station to the screen which lowered to the stage. Where were you on July 30, 2011?

2nd Time Show
How do you describe something as unbelievably awesome as what took place in Moncton, NB? This show was amazing in every way imaginable. The first time I saw U2 on the Vertigo tour was great but the Moncton show was unbelievable... So glad U2 came to our little part of the world!
We are all Bonofied!
The Movie Starrs Pierce Bronson (standing very close to us on a podium), the messages from Burma, from Space and Beyond before a Sea of People ... Moncton & 7 Million served! Your kindness is ecclectic, yet your actions go beyond this Planet. You conjured the best of the best amongst of us in a Collective Meditation for Peace, Love and Harmony tonite! You made everyone feel a risen State of Conciousness! Get it up! Get it up! Yes Bono! We are all Bonofied! Every U2 band member, Thank You!
