’Close to the music...’

TOURS14 OCTOBER 2023 1 MIN READ

'Close to the music...'

'... it only matters if we get close to the music and close to you.' Night seven at Sphere.

14 Oct 2023

Friday night in Las Vegas and show seven is lucky for everyone, including a little setlist roulette with 'Acrobat' and 'So Cruel' swapping places.

A snippet of Lou Reed's 'Walk On The Wild Side' appeared during 'All I Want Is You', after which Bram gave us all some Dutch advice: 'Don't go to bed!'

From 'Angel of Harlem', Bono segued into 'Don't Look Back In Anger' and judging by the house response, there were more than a few Oasis fans here tonight.

And with perhaps his most more-Sid-than-Sinatra snippet of 'My Way', Bono ended with a growling, punk-rock yawp: 'We did it OUR WAY!'

What Bono Said

'Thank you for coming the distance, bringing us to our destination.'

'Look where we get to work! Welcome to Sphere. The Sphere gave us sublime technology to deal with, but it only matters if we get close to the music and close to you.'

During the encore, before the final song of the night, 'Beautiful Day': 'I know many of you made long journeys to get here … and you brought us the distance, too. We thank you so much.'

From the Socials

'U2 just jumped to my favorite concert of all time! Amazing! #U2'—@joevigil on X

'Well, was that worth flying 12 hours for? God, you bet it was, incredible.#U2UVSPHERE #Night1' —@Number9uk on X

'I've been to a bunch of U2 concerts since 2001, but I think this was the best one I've attended. The boys hit it out of the park. … In GA we were on the left by the Edge, surrounded by die-hards like us and everyone was so much fun. I lost my voice singing — Marissa Alana on Facebook

'It was an amazing show, I had seen some spoilers but you can't imagine what it is actually like until you see it for real. On several occasions the effects of the screen and lighting made me think I was at an outdoor show in daylight, very impressive. Bram gave his sticks to a little girl who was in GA with her parents, such a nice thing to do.' — @markpeterboro via X

'God walks through the Sphere,' @VKTreasure commented on Tik Tok during Friday night's particularly rousing 'Where The Streets Have No Name'. 'Can never get through it without sobbing… If they did the “shine like stars” verse, the collective would explode'.

Zootopia/U2 Faniverse

'That was crazy. Anyway, I'll just say that was the best thing I've ever seen and leave the rest for another time. I am wiped out.' —Ramsatw

'They didn't bring me (or anyone) up to ride the balloon but what a show!! The band were in amazing spirits tonight' — lukyls
