Show Report

Second show in Zurich tonight, and the live debut for 'Mercy' a near-mythical track with legendary status amongst hardcore U2 afficionados.

Just one reason among many why the seriously moist conditions were not going to dampen anyone's spirits.

'First time we've played this live outside of soundcheck,' explained Bono in introducing Mercy, which was written and recorded during the 'How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb' sessions and, while widely referenced, never subsequently released.

The track won a great reception and proved another signal that the band are ringing the changes in the set list: tonight we also had Mothers of the Disappeared, back after its surprise appearance in Istanbul, as well as the fourth of the all-new tracks North Star.

There's something powerful about watching the band perform in such difficult conditions, particularly a track as poignant as Mothers of the Disappeared, dedicated to Aung San Suu Kyi, with Bono banging his chest like a visual pulse. 'We hear their heartbeart...'

The rain continued to pour and the audience to clap in time as we sequed into Walk On and a snatch of Neil Young's 'You Are Like A Hurricane' before an updated lyric of One about having 'some fun in the rain.' Bono was still singing about the weather ('When the rain comes and I don't mind') as 'Streets' arrived and this totally drenched audience were still unbelievably up for it... totally into the music and totally ignoring the conditions!

Quite the sight to see Adam with his shirt off, so torrential did the conditions become, and when Bono thanked everyone at the end of Moment of Surrender for 'a special night'... we all knew we had been at a memorable show.

If you were there tonight, add your own review and upload your photos below.

You never let your fans down
A nice warm sunny day and then, 10 min. before beginning, it started pouring rain for hours... I could'nt believe it and was so disappointed. But then they arrived on stage and Bono's words "it rains but I don't mind !" made me feel soon better. And it's true you all performed the best you could under those bad conditions. Thanks to you all to give to your fans so much fun and emotions. Hope to see you again in a few years.

Sunny day became a rainy day. It doesn't matter. The show was great. Thanks to the band. They never stop giving punch. That was a particular show but unbelievable.

never stop the party
the smile on the faces of the band was the best reward for getting soaked to the skin, but hey I won the wet t-shirt contest! The songs touched my heart and I couldn't stop singing, crying and dancing in the rain. It was just a energetic but tenderly profound evening! Yes it was mystical. Thanks to the band for the great moment.

What a show!
My God, I'm finally dry again. --- It was my first U2 show in the middle of the crowd. And it was hilarious! Despite the rain (or maybe because of it) the atmosphere in front of the circle was absolutely stunning. And the "boys played rock and roll" --- I'll never forget to have Bono singing Elevation two meters in front of me. Or trying to "wipe the tears away" while literally standing under the shower during "Sunday, Bloody Sunday". And Adam going to the mic at the end of the concert with his wide grin telling us we were "a fantastic crow". I loved every second of the show (also of OneRepublic). Definitely a night to remember. I doubt that I'll ever attend a something like this again. Thanks U2. Mercy and do come again!!

Thank you for given us such a great show. It was amazing: the show, the feeling and last but not least the rain. Thank you for not leave us standing in the rain.

This is rock'n roll
Just back from Zürich, what an experience...

My 8th show and definitely the craziest one... a memorable moment due to the torrentiel conditions and many surprises like Mercy.

The rain turned to tempest during Sunday bloody Sunday, but nothing could stop us to stay up into the music and the show. We had so much fun, this rainy Sunday was really rock'n roll...

Thanks to the band for this amazing night. I'm sure they had fun also, especially Adam.

I've never seen Adam enjoying as much on the stage.
The gentleman finished the concert with his shirt off and a large smile on his face under liters and liters of swiss rain... ;)

Many, many thanks guys,

Keep rockin and see you in Paris next week.

Merci !!
