U2 live in Paris' October 00
19 October 2000

I dreamed I saw U2 at Club 'Man Ray', Paris. Like a U2 gig, only smaller. Like a rock show, only hotter, louder, sweatier. 600 blessed souls told they'd won the chance to hear the new U2 album ahead of time. The whole thing played over the dance floor sound system. Being the first. Dancing in the dark. Loving the moment. Start to finish. Then, bonus time. Come on, bring it on. U2 stumble onto a tiny stage and rip it up for real. 'Elevation'. 'New York'. 'Stuck in a Moment'. Three new songs, bang bang bang. 'Beautiful Day' suddenly sounding like a familiar hit. Touch me.
Music to body surf to. "Thank you. Merci bien. Shall we play a couple more?" You need to ask? 'Mysterious Ways' on a dance floor where it belongs. Its all right, its all right. Deafened by the crowd in 'All I Want is You'. Yelling till the walls bleed. "Thank you, merci, bon soir, au revoir". Just kidding. Peaking, just peaking with 'Real Thing'. Finding it, catching it and holding it down for 'The Ground Beneath Her Feet'.
Finally, out of nowhere, 'Bad'. Sing it, sing it and watch the MoJo settle on us, hold it, sweat it, conjure it up, call it out, say its name. This one is bigger than both of us. Torch this tiny room. Make it all one, the way we used to do. Spark the fusion and just don't stand in its way. "Merci, au revoir, bon soir, bon soir, bon soir....." Exhale and wake up laughing.
