Gospel Music in Jo'Burg

18

'We're fans and we fell in love with the sound you make so tonight we're going to open the show with one of your pieces.'

The Soweto Gospel Choir were at Soccer Stadium in Jo'Burg last month to greet the band ahead of the first date of 2011.

Last year the double-Grammy winning Choir recorded several U2 tracks including 'Where The Streets Have No Name', which opens 'U2 Duals'.

And it was their own version of 'Get On Your Boots' that was playing as the band arrived on stage.

Amazing Grace/Streets
It would have been so amazing (maybe obvious/serendipitous?) if the Soweto Choir could have performed in Soweto with the Band rather than Hugh M (I know you cant please everyone). Mildly disappointed but show remained awesome!

Soweto Gospel Choir
All of their remixes are amazing. Those are the songs that I am most looking forward to on the Duals CD. Wish the Get on your Boots was on there. Also love the opening of the show in South Africa. Hope that sticks around for the US leg.

Sunlight on their faces
This great choir puts a lot of soul in the music and all the incredible voices add some new colours to well-known songs like "Where The Streets Have No Name". Watching the singers rehearse and clap their hands I can see and feel that they truly rejoice in music. I love their creativity to make their own versions of some U2 tracks.

Simply beautiful
Awesome choir. I could get into them. So cool that the lads used it as there intro. Looks like they all had a good time (and that was just the start of the concert). Be good to hear more from them.

Amazing choir. Saw them live in Rotterdam last November. I'd hoped to see them on stage with U2 but unfortuantely that did not happen.
