Back To Paris
Eagles of Death Metal onstage with U2 in Paris People Have The Power

'We want to introduce some people whose lives will forever be part of this city…’ explained Bono. 'These are our brothers, our fellow troubadours they were robbed of their stage three weeks ago. We would like to offer them ours tonight. Welcome The Eagles of Death Metal.'

Eagles of Death Metal were the surprise guests at the end of tonight’s final show in Paris.

Three weeks after the deadly attacks at their show at Le Bataclan, the band were back on stage in Paris, receiving an ovation to raise the roof, they joined U2 to perform Patti Smith’s The People Have The Power. They then stayed on stage to perform a track of their own, 'I Love You All The Time.'

Tonight's show was one of the two rescheduled from U2's visit to Paris last month and the seventy sixth and final show of the iNNOCENCE & eXPERIENCE Tour (seventy seven if you include the club night at the Roxy in LA ) which opened in Vancouver back in May.

Another highlight tonight came when the band played the e stage, where all tour long different fans have joined them on stage for Mysterious Ways. Following a competition on U2.com, tonight nine of those fans, from different cities in North America and Europe, had flown in to Paris to be at the show.

One of them, Trish, found herself up on stage again, grooving gracefully through Mysterious Ways and then shooting the Meerkat moment... at which point all the stage-divers were up with the band and rocking the joint through Elevation. 'What a collection you are,' said Bono 'Thank you all.'

And what a great way to mark the close of the 2015 shows, the Fourth Wall well and truly down again.

Those fine people at @U2gigs captured the set list stats. 'Paris is the only city of the entire tour at which Elevation has been played every show. The same thing can be said about One, which was played in the encore; it has appeared at all four Paris shows, but missed at least one show in every other city.
The encore will be remembered for a long time. It included fan favourite Bad, performed for the fifth show in a row - a streak last achieved when it was played at the six final shows of the Elevation Tour's third leg in November/December 2001.'

And here's a few highlights from some of the media coverage of the night.

'This was a beautiful evening of great music, but it was also about the very serious things happening in France and in other countries,' said Cécile Audibert, 35, who said friends of her cousin had been at a restaurant attacked on November 13.

'It's a rock 'n' roll show!” Bono shouted not long into U2's concert Monday night in Paris, but of course he knew it was more than that...'

Billboard quoted Promoter Arthur Fogel, on how U2 always ‘rise to the occasion': 'U2, a band seemingly built for big emotional moments, rose to the occasion in Paris, last night bringing Eagles Of Death Metal to the stage in dramatic fashion. Fogel, promoter/producer of all of the band's tours since PopMart in 1997-'98, calls U2 'a special band, special people, and they do rise to the occasion. They have an incredible ability to capture the moment, the mood, and it's pretty inspirational, I have to say.'

The New York Post noted the return to the stage of Jesse Hughes.  'The unbowed Hughes' excitedly strutted down the runway at the centre of the venue, draping himself in a French flag, and bathing in the pulsating Parisian energy. The road back to any semblance of normality will be hard for the Eagles of Death Metal, but the 16,000 in the arena gave them an almighty first push...'

Fans at the show found the final night both inspirational and moving.

'That @EODMofficial have returned to the stage so soon,' tweeted @simonpeyda ‘In #Paris nonetheless, is a victory for music and for the world. #Courage #U2ieTour'

‘I think we just saw @U2 rewrite the whole live concert experience again.' added @_Bigwave_  'Passing the torch over to @EODMofficial to end the #U2ieTour Wow.'

‘I'm happy and sad at the same time.' tweeted @webgrumpy 'I have Tears in my Face and Tears in my Heart! But everything has an end! #U2 #U2ieTour #U2ForParis'

We’ll have more on tonight’s show coming up but if you were in the house tell us what it was like and post your photos below.

Happiness with U2
Paris was full of emotion :) Thank you U2 for all the love to the public during the show. I was in Turin and Dublin to see you on stage with the family'U2 (brothers, friends, daughter, son). Since 28 years I have the happiness to follow you, I'm happy and I miss you when I have to leave town after a show. Luckily your music is always in my house, my car and also to my office. Thanks for all the love you offer. Vero "Beverly" from Switzerland

City of Light
Just watched the HBO live broadcast in the UK and brought back the flood of emotion from that night in Paris. Four guys from the North Side of Dublin, proving once again that perfect love will ALWAYS defeat fear. We will not become a monster to defeat a monster. There is no them; there's only us.....and we will Love You All The Time. Amen Brothers.

wonderful time
such a brilliant moment shared with so many people from all over the world! felt privileged to be there. The whole show was extremely precise and professional and yet warm and full of the spirit of togetherness and openness to different ways to live our own life. Definitely agree on the "stronger than fear" necessity. U2 music is always along every day of my life and will stay the same.

A Class Act
I saw the show on HBO. It was excellent. Asked my girls (8 and 11 yrs old) if they wanted to watch - it brought back fun memories for them as they had attended their first concert ever, seeing U2 at MSG in NYC on July 31 (by the way, thanks for arranging to have Bruce at that show - a real and very special treat!). As the this Paris show was ending, I figured that the Eagles of Death Metal might come on stage, as nothing is a secret these days with instant everything. Anticipating this, I quickly explained to my kids who the EODM are and the connection that U2 and EODM have. To them another performer on stage was 'expected'. Since Bruce came on stage in NYC at , it was not a surprise that another group of musicians would show up on stage in Paris! And it was quite a rendition of "People Have the Power". But it got even better. When U2 turned their stage over to EODM for the final song of the night - it was one of those moments in rock and roll history that will forever be remembered. My kids appreciated the significance of that action. Thank you U2 for showing that even famous musicians of extraordinary talent can and do have humility. It demonstrates what I thought, but now know for certain: U2 are a class act.

experience
Friday got the ticket, Saturday booked the bus. 2000 km and 25 hours of travel in two days, to be all together in Paris (from Cremona, Italy). U2 thanks for giving me the opportunity, giving me the energy and the courage to to make this journey, which has allowed me to live this experience, to feel these emotions. Even if you are traveling alone you have the knowledge that on arrival you will find people, you will make new friends, you will hear new stories and you will find four men on stage for which you realize you do crazy things, but that make you incredibly happy.

Merci
It took me some time to think about what to say after those shows, and i'm still not sure i'll ever find the right words to describe what those two nights in Paris meant... Three weeks ago, our dreams, our hopes and our joy were stolen... Many of us were out on these streets - but we were the lucky ones. Going home unharmed. I wasn't sure that I wanted to come back to Paris, but I knew I needed to. For closure. Letting go of these horrible moments. Dare to dream again... And what a feeling in that arena... everything that was stolen from us, has been given back a thousand times. For all the lives that were taken, and broken... What an honor to be there. Singing, jumping, crying on their behalf. It was not just about U2. Not just about Paris and France. But for all music lovers... for better days to come. Special moment when EODM came in. We might not all know about their music, but we all acted as die hard fans for them. I was so proud to be part of this. I am so proud of being a U2 fan. This tour has been a wonderful adventure. And those nights in Paris made it even more special. At least for me. So Bono, if I may borrow your words. Thanks for sticking with us. Thanks for giving us a great life. Let me just add - thanks for the joy, the emotions, the chill, giving us hope, letting us dream out loud again. For all the friendships made on the way. For the family you gave me. For saving my soul, again. Eternally grateful. True blessing to have your music in our lives. And now... we'll miss you. But we'll be waiting. Ready for the next push. Fuck the past and give the future a big kiss, right? Merci les gars. Jo. D

Mind-blowing show
Thank you U2 for this show! The best moment to me was when you played October--the whole house went silent! There was so much emotion with the pictures from Syria, somehow reminding us of the Paris Attacks on a larger and more frightening scale... I loved this show! Thanks for playing Bad!

Thank you Paris
What an incredible show on HBO! The fans in Paris were so passionate. I saw U2 at Madison Square Garden three weeks after the 9/11 attacks. Our city was still deeply wounded, our train was stopped because of threats but we made it to the show 10 minutes before the band hit the stage and it was such a healing experience for all those in attendance. Love did overcome the fear. I pray that my brothers and sisters in Paris will feel the same way. Fear cannot conquer the city of Love and Light. I hope this is not the final show of the I+E tour, we need more U2 healing and inspiration. Have a wonderful holiday to the band and their incredible crew that bring this show to life in every city. Thanks for the great shows this year, hope to see you soon.

U2 7/12/2015
This must be the best concert ever. Tears with passing by of the names of the victims of 13/11 on the big video screen. With the encore, bad followed by one and finally EODM/U2 with a big statement.

Amazing closer!!!
Words can barely describe the joy I had yesterday and I still have. I wasn't like any other show or any another closing night. It was THE closing show and the best possible finale our beloved band could give us, bringing up EODM up on stage.

Well Done
I was blessed to drive to Vancouver BC from Seattle, Washington on Thursday – May 14th to watch my “all time” favorite group kick-off their iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE tour. Yes, I was very happy and excited to be in the midst of fellow U2 fans as we watched this awe-inspiring group put on a stellar concert. However, I must admit that tonight I feel even more connected to U2 fans throughout the world. In short, I am sitting here in my living room watching U2 perform in Paris via HBO; all I can say with a smile on my face and tears in my eyes is “WELL DONE”…..what a great tribute to the citizens of Paris! And yes, what a way to let the music play on for the fans of EODM.
