Satellite of Love Over New York City
Night seven at Madison Square Garden. Some of our highlights.

'This is the act of surrender, and we surrender to you this evening in Madison Square Garden. And you are the reason we're here. You brought us here. So we surrender.'

Were you at the show in New York City last night? Post your comments and add your photos below. Meantime, here's a few reminders of what went down.

'Did you know that yesterday was John Lennon Day in New York City? Myself and The Edge spent the afternoon on Ellis Island, with Lady Liberty behind us... and Yoko Ono in front of us.
'We were there for Amnesty International and I told the assembled gathering that The Beatles were in fact… Irish! Not just John, all of The Beatles were Irish… and I’m sticking by that today. OK? I tried it in Liverpool, it didn’t go so well, but in New York it’s gonna go great!'
Iris went out to all mothers but in particular to Julia, mother of John Lennon.

The innovation of ‘The Fly’ before Invisible, switching with The Wanderer, has some fans returning to the tour specifically to see it. 'Even though I saw the first two shows in Vancouver,' tweeted @MartinKendell 'I want to fly to NYC just so I can see The Fly intermission segment!”

U2 Brother, in his discoball helmet, was under the lights again for Mysterious Ways and stayed to capture Elevation on Meerkat. Mark's tribute band Acrobat were on stage in Toronto to play 'Desire'  and tonight he did another fine job.  On the 'e' stage Bono also paid tribute to Alyssa - the woman who called 911 after his bike crash in Central Park last year - and to 'Engine 44 'The Fighting Irish' that picked me up off the ground.'
Tonight those same firefighters offered Bono a Jameson which he gratefully accepted and invited him to dinner at the firehouse. As one of them put it: 'We patched you up so you could perform in front of millions of people every year. We'll always take care of you. Fighting 44, hoorah!'

Beautiful surprise after that with Edge and Bono honouring Laurie Anderson who was with us and remembering the great Lou Reed.
'It's 30 years ago last week that our band played Live Aid in London at Wembley Arena. On that occasion, we sent a signal to somebody we loved... in his apartment here in New York. Lou Reed, like everybody else, was watching television and Lou Reed found this message that we sent via satellite and we became friends. He was the poet laureate of New York City, can we agree? And we have the privilege of having his partner here, Laurie Anderson who's another extraordinary, gifted friend of ours. So we want to play for her, and all of you, a song of his that speaks of that moment when friendships begin in those random, extraordinary moments. So let's see if we can call up the spirit of Lou....'

Twenty two years after its last full performance by the band (10th December 1993), Satellite Of Love joins the ever expanding #U2ieTour song  list, and, just like in those ZOOTV days, the poet laureate of New York City appears on the screens with synced vocals for the duet. 'The ever-present Lou Reed.'

Beautiful Day namechecked Rolling Stone and Jann Wenner as well as 'Jessica Chastain right in front of you' and with a snippet of The Ramones I Remember You, also  became  ' a message born in Queens, from Joey.'

And then when you think there can’t be any more surprises, over the gentle refrain of the intro to Mother & Child Reunion, this: 'There's somebody here tonight who is extraordinary in all kinds of ways and we've been using his song to tell the piece of the HIV puzzle that hurts the most, the transmission from a mother to her unborn child of the virus HIV. We had to find the most extraordinary song. Paul Simon is in the house tonight.'

And with that Paul Simon himself walks on to the stage, Bono passing him the microphone..

'No I would not give you false hope
On this strange and mournful day
But the mother and child reunion
Is only a motion away, oh, little darling of mine....'

Best show EVER!
Was only planning to go to one of their shows while in NY, but ended up going to two as I LOVED it so much! It moved me so much! What a Show! These guys are SO talented and so personable at the same time. I can't wait to see what comes next and am hoping their new album will be released next year as they have mentioned. I can't thank U2 enough for this experience, will remember for years to come.

Bono took my irish flag! 7/18 ! 10
I have been seeing the show in various cities since Phoenix.... and it just got better and better. They just left my hometown of NYC and I'm already in u2 Withdrawals.... which means only one thing.... my birthday is coming up and I need to head to Paris to see them on my BDAY! in any case, something very special happened on 7/18. Years ago, right after 9/11 (I lost a lot of friends that day - but two very close to my heart), u2 played the superbowl. My friends and I sat in his bar that day (he died in 9/11) and we watched with tears as the names scrolled down to the song "Where the Streets have no name". It was that very day that my friends and I had this idea that we would write the names of our friends on a flag and bring it to a u2 show (they were fans too)... Time went on and no one really did it and people forget, but I do not forget. It's a very special moment, because I also worked at the WTC at the time of 9/11.... and I survived. I couldn't let this tour go past without keeping the flag promise. I wrote on that flag the names of Tommy Knox and Wayne Hobson and I asked if they could dedicate "Streets" to them...... but something even better happened. During Streets.... Bono came down and took that flag and laid it out on the stage... he had no idea what was written on that flag until after he took it and laid it out. It was almost like a miracle.... almost as if my friends were looking down and saying thanks for remembering us. Took me close to 15 years to get this done.... but it got done and that's all that matters. Peace to all

Pre concert set list
I saw U2 in Chicago on June 25th (It was awesome!). I have the set list of the concert from the website and I know the song the Bono walked out on stage (Power of the People) to but I would like to know more of the songs prior to that. Trying to make a playlist with those songs too. I know there was a Talking Heads song but can't remember which one it was. Any help would be appreciated!!! Ed

support
Hello, Friends, at U2.com. I want to say that you all do a great job of keeping us informed and you write with eloquence and respect. I also want to thank you for posting my comments several times. The band and the U2 team are having a phenomenal tour. I can feel the energy as we follow the news. My husband and I are excited to be going to NY on Thursday and want to offer our support. I sense there may be a need for some input or help for the band, their team and their families. Although this tour is cathartic in many ways, I sense there are also difficulties to overcome. And they keep fighting. My husband and I will be in NY as of Thursday evening and will be there for the greatest show ever on Friday. If there is any way we can help or be a support to U2 (musically or otherwise), we are available from Thursday night through Sunday evening. We fly back to the Homeland of Dylan on Monday. In the meantime, we are there in heart and prayers with the whole team. "With God all things are possible."

How the song GRACE changed my life. See
Twelve years ago and one month to the day of the MSG U2 concert we will be at (July 30th)... my husband and I chose the name Grace for our daughter and this was all due to U2. Our daughter Grace, which means "a gift from God", was more than just that. U2's song GRACE told our story. Nine months earlier our first child and newly adopted daughter passed away. We had not even returned from China with her when she became heaven bound. As we worked through the pain, sadness, and dullness in our hearts we found some solace. We had hoped to go back to China after we healed but did not really believe it would ever happen... parenthood. So while away on our anniversary weekend we talked about the what if's. Don said, "I want you to really listen to the words to this U2 song, GRACE. I really believe this song tells our story and shows us what our child will be to us, our story, herself, and the world." OK maybe I added the last part. But the song is all about healing and wiping away the pain... of hope and triumph. My sweet beautiful daughter Grace has been that and so much more. That song gave us hope. That song kinda' put a little light on our road. That song gave us the courage we needed, that all would be OK. Thank you U2. My husband and I have been fans much longer than we have been married. But your live performance has been on our bucket list for many years. And now we get to celebrate 25 years together in NYC with U2. Thanks for all the graces your music sends out to each and every one of us.

Flying in from TX
My wife and I just booked a last minute flight to NYC to catch the boys before they head back to Europe. We were really sad they did not make a TX appearance this go around, but the stars aligned at the last minute to allow us to make Thursday's show. Looking forward to taking it all in with everyone. My wife and I were engaged just before the first Toronto show on the last tour. This will be a special night on so many levels!

Dream come true.(by chance).
These extra shows when announced mean that I can now see the band on this tour outside the UK. On a family holiday to the USA from Northern Ireland and after being out there for almost two weeks means that on our first night of 4, arriving in NYC, before we depart back to Ireland - myself and my wife can pop over to MSG (we're literally staying across the street by coincidence) to catch the show! Brilliant. Tickets bought & first time seeing the band outside Ireland.

OMG! Just so happens I'll be in NY this weekend from CA and I'm so excited to see my favorite band at The Garden. Saw two of the five shows at The Forum (May 30 & 31) and I can't get enough. So glad tickets were available.

Tribute to Lou Reed?
Hoping the boys will be playing something by Lou while they are in town, particularly this night (unfortunately the only night I will be in town). Maybe they'll feel like taking a Walk On The Wild Side or sending up a Satellite Of Love?!? ;-) Much love and lifting you guys up during this difficult time. -Johnny
