Moby On U2 in NY

26 Oct 2001
'I went to see U2 again tonight. Boy are they good in concert.'

Moby has been to see U2 in New York this week - and writes up the experience in his online diary.

The I.R.A seems to have laid down their weapons. I'm not quite sure what the exact situation is, but I'm hopeful that this is an actual breakthrough and even a potential end to the horrifying violence of the struggle. Good luck to the people of Northern Ireland. It would be amazing to see a peaceful resolution to the problems.

And in similar news, I went to see U2 again tonight. Boy are they good in concert. Wowee. They're just amazing. Melodic and powerful. I wish there were more musicians who:
a-Write great songs
b-Are nice people
c-Have a strong social conscience
d-Play all their hits in concert...
In a part of the U2 show they listed some of the people who were killed in the terrorist attacks (they couldn't list all 6,000, cos that would've taken hours). Seeing the names of some of the people who were killed in the terrorist attacks made me sad but it also made me angry. The victims were individuals. Innocent individuals. The terrorists are wrong. It needs to be said a million times, the terrorists are wrong. Killing innocent people is a profound wrong, and we can't forget that. I know that sounds simple, but we can't forget that one basic fact: killing innocent people is wrong.

Ok, so the U2 show was great. 'Sunday Bloody Sunday' had a particular and almost uncanny resonance given the terrorist attacks on the U.S. and Bono is a New Yorker (as well as an Irishman), so it seemed as if the show had special meaning for him.
