She is Aung San Suu Kyi, pro-democracy leader and Nobel Peace laureate, and U2 dedicate their song Walk On to her.

Aung San Suu Kyi has spent six years under house arrest, her movements are severely restricted, her phone frequently cut and she is prevented from seeing her family. Hundreds of her supporters are detained, many suffering torture and in some cases death.

But Aung San Suu Ky symbolises the struggle of Burma's people for freedom and democracy. You can find out more about her and support the Burmese people in their struggle for liberty by visiting our Hearts and Minds pages.

On those pages you will also find information about Amnesty International, Greenpeace and the campaign to cancel the debts of the world's poorest countries.

If you are seeing the band on the Elevation 2001 tour, check the stands of these campaigning organisations and show them your support.
