The Subterraneans, The Dubliners & UB40 opened up for U2. It was a glorious sunny day & Edge's birthday. During "Party Girl," a giant cake was wheeled out & the then Mrs Edge popped out to surprise him. At one point in the gig Bono remarked how it was "Good to be back in the Real Capital," & reminisced about early shows in the Arcadia.
We found what we were looking for..
This was my first concert ever in Cork, and the most amazing thing was that we were actually allowed to go at all.Age 14,myself and my girlfriend took off to Cork with the promise of meeting our parents at 1am in a hotel in the city,no cell phones then!!.It was a great day,we met so many fabulous people, fans and staff, who gave us their time and were so nice to us young girls. It was Edges birthday and last gig of the leg it was an intoxicating atmosphere.I was sold on the hugeness and oneness of such a big event and can still feel the excitement as I remember it,and promising myself that when U2 ever played Ireland again,I would be there if at all possible.
