First tour - my second night
Looked this up because it is 30 years today since I first saw U2 when they performed the third of five shows here in Sydney on 6th September 1984. I also saw this show, the final night in Sydney and it was all the more memorable because I was only 6 rows away from the stage. These shows predated the release of The Unforgettable Fire. Although Pride had been released as a single it wasn't as familiar or as loved as it is today. To be honest, it didn't make much of an impression on me. I was more impressed by hearing the title track for the first time. Even though I didn't know its name, I loved the chorus. Other highlights for me were: - Hearing Harry's Game to start the show was spine tingling. - Bono taking up a guitar for 'I fall down' and explaining that Edge was teaching him basic chords. - Being enthralled when Edge took on lead vocals for Seconds - The over all level of passion and energy in the show. That is what got me hooked on U2. - The sound of 12,000 people chanting 'How long' as 40 concluded the show Taking cameras into shows was strictly forbidden but I mentioned to capture this moment in history.
