Yesterday afternoon, when Bono was leaving for the show, I had the pleasant and unexpected experience of seeing him near me. At that moment, I had the initiative to give him a ribbon and said: "Bono, this is to protect you, it is from Bahia!" He looked at me with surprised and curious look. At that moment, I could not explain what that ribbon means. But now I do: it is the most famous souvenir from Bahia, “Senhor do Bonfim” ribbon. In popular tradition, the Lord of Bonfim ribbon is wrapped around the wrist and secured with three knots. Each node follows a request made mentally, and that should be kept secret until the tape breaks naturally. Each color symbolizes an Orisha, who are guardians of the elements of nature. I am not from Bahia, I live in Fortaleza in northeastern Brazil. I and my 12 year old son came to Sao Paulo to attend the 360 degrees show on Sunday. I admit I was quite surprised by his spontaneity and spirit of humility in addressing their fans who were there anxious for a nod. At that moment, when I saw him coming from where I was, I did not know what to do. But I suddenly remembered that I had the ribbon in my pocket and decided to give it to him. I saw some photos of him greeting fans on the Internet and holding the ribbon. I know this is a symbol, but I sincerely want it to protect him in his life.
