The Joshua Tree Tour 2017

5 Jan 2017255

The band will be out on the road again this summer celebrating the 30th anniversary of The Joshua Tree and performing the album in full, every night. In July the tour brings them home to Croke Park in Dublin, 30 years after the original Joshua Tree Tour’s two memorable shows at the Dublin venue in June 1987.

U2: The Joshua Tree Tour 2017 kicks off in Vancouver on 12th May for a run of dates across North America, and includes U2’s first ever U.S. festival headline appearance at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival.

The tour then moves to Europe with the first stop in London on 8th July, finishing up in Brussels on 1st August and taking in their hometown show in Croke Park on 22nd July.

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds will provide support across Europe, with Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers and One Republic joining the tour through North America.

“It seems like we have come full circle from when The Joshua Tree songs were originally writtten, with global upheaval, extreme right wing politics and some fundamental human rights at risk,” reflects The Edge. “To celebrate the album - as these songs seem so relevant and prescient of these times too - we decided to do these shows, it feels right for now. We’re looking forward to it.”

“Recently I listened back to The Joshua Tree for the first time in nearly 30 years,” adds Bono. “It’s quite an opera. A lot of emotions which feel strangely current, love, loss, broken dreams, seeking oblivion, polarisation… all the greats... I’ve sung some of these songs a lot… but never all of them. I’m up for it, if our audience is as excited as we are… it’s gonna be a great night. Especially when we play at home. Croke Park.. it’s where the album was born, 30 years ago.”

Tickets for U2: The Joshua Tree Tour 2017 are on sale Monday, January 16th in Ireland, the UK and Europe and on Tuesday, January 17th in the US and Canada. Ticket prices start at €35.00 / £35.00 / $35.00 with general admission floor tickets at  €70.00 / £70.00  / $70.00.

As usual, there is an exclusive priority presale for U2.com subscribers from Wednesday, January 11th (9am) through Friday, January 13th (5pm) local times. Tickets will be general admission on the floor and reserved seating in the stands. There will be a 4 ticket limit for subscriber purchases and a 6 ticket limit commencing with public sales. In North America, all floor tickets will be paperless unless otherwise noted.

Find all the dates below and keep an eye on our Tour page for the latest ticket and package information.

Released to universal acclaim on March 9th 1987 and featuring hit singles “With Or Without You”,“I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” and “Where The Streets Have No Name”, The Joshua Tree went to No. 1 in Ireland and around the world selling in excess of 25 million copies and catapulting Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr “… from heroes to superstars” (Rolling Stone).

Time Magazine put U2 on its cover in April 1987, proclaiming them “Rock’s Hottest Ticket” in a defining year for the band that saw their arena dates roll into stadium shows to accommodate escalating demand - setting them on course to become one of the greatest live acts in the world today.

The 12 months that followed saw the band create now-iconic moments: the traffic-stopping Grammy Award-winning music video on the roof of a Los Angeles liquor store, winning a BRIT Award and two Grammys - including Album of the Year - their first of 22 received to date, distinguishing U2 as the most awarded rock band in Grammy history; as well as a triumphant return home with the original Joshua Tree Tour for four unforgettable shows in Belfast, Dublin and Cork in the summer of 1987.

In 1987 Hot Press called The Joshua Tree “their most influential album yet”. As for this tour? Noel Gallagher says, “It will be both a pleasure and an honour to play my part in what still remains the greatest show on earth.”

That's terrific
Hoping they stretch it out to include Australia. I here rumours of 2018; even touring with the yet to drop album would be terrific too. Either way I hope to see you live soon sometime in the near future and that there's a DVD release of this tour. Always good to hear U2 album our touring news. My first concert was U2s LoveTown in Brisbane. Great night!

Outra of the routine
I was hoping for a new concept to i&e tour with "Songs Of Experience," but it's really out of the routine to choose to tour an album done thirty years ago. Undoubtedly, it's exciting to think of the return of some songs such as "Exit," "In God's Country," "One Tree Hill," "With Or Without You," etc. with all memorable snippets of "Joy Division", "Bob Dylan", "The Doors", "Bob Marley", "Lou Reed", "Eddie Cochran", etc. And I was overwhelmed by Rolling Stones' question to The Edge about two songs, "Acrobat" and "Drowning Man" - that would be the best surprises (they read my mind?). I would still add with great expectation the songs  "Hawkmoon 269" and "God Part II". But I was dreaming about this in a tour related with "Songs of Experience". Do not leave SOE for so long. I had an impression, reading the interview from The Edge, that you are waiting for a bit more of the world political scene to give the last brushstrokes in the album. I find this effort interesting. When a song really helps us understand a certain political scenario is something unique and sometimes it becomes timeless. And the U2 have perfect notion and a lot experience about this. The polarization of politics is not necessarily negative, since it provides different perspectives and angles on the same themes. However, It is not a good idea to polarize world politics as one, since the correct thing is that each nation recognizes its own type of polarization that reflects the needs and potentialities of the internal social conjuncture. This process of recognition is intense in a young democracy that still depends on external resources, but in superpowers there is a more immediate risk of confusing the internal conjuncture as a single polarization in the world. In brazilian rock there are also some emblematic songs in this sense, but they were only to understand the restricted political scenario of Brazil, such as "Que País é Este?", "Perfeição", both of the "Legião Urbana". This band used to reproduce some sounds that I think it was inspired by U2, as in songs like "Ainda é Cedo" and "Soldados". There is also relevant and timeless understanding of the Brazilian political scene in songs by composer Cazuza, as in the lyrics of "Ideologia" and "O Tempo Não Pára". Anyway, I am very happy with the announcement of the TUF Tour 2017, I wish a lot of fun and all the inspirations necessary to finish the new album. I'll try to go to this tour! But, I admit that the logistics of my daily life does not suggest that I will succeed. And I look forward for more details on "Songs Of Experience".

30 years of mysic...
9th of March 1987... 17 years old. Didn't go to school, ended up on the sideway in front of the music store, waiting 2 hours for it to open. Be one of the first to buy the LP "The Joshua Tree" from my favourite band. Within 24 hours, the record went grey, and all the lyrics were in my head. Never stopped listening anymore. A mystic part of my life had begun, with U2 in the main role. The presale for Rotterdam was announced. Queuing for 24 hours to buy a ticket (those were times), I hardly got one. 10th of July 1987 - the first U2 live show ever for me. All the recognition, a child crying in the stadium. Never to forget! I hope that the child - which has now become a man - will cry on the 29th of July, 30 years later, over and over again. To celebrate one of the best things ever happened to him - U2! Thank you guys for giving me this life!

Remember us?
Can't wait!!
I currently live in the middle of nowhere in Alice Springs, Australia and will be back home in Florida when the tour will be in Tampa, Fl.! Trying to convince my bestie to go with me and we were in LA at the Forum for the 2015 Innocence Tour. The only thing different is I had just met my fiancé earlier that day and now we are getting married a week later after the June 14th show in Tampa; and my bestie is engaged now too!

I was at the concert in Rome, the opening European date for that glorious tour. It'll be fantastic to be there again, and I still remember what Bono said that time " I went to the doctor here in Rome, because my voice is sore, my voice is very sore. He told me, he told me, he wants me to sing in Rome because the people of Rome will sing for me". We're waiting for you guys, and YES Bon, the People of Rome, as usual, will be ready to sing for you!!

Yes
I'm so going.

History comes back!
What a great news! My first U2 concert was Roma 27/5/1987, fisrt date of the European Tour. Amazing engagement with Bono addressing the crowd: "questo posto è grande, ma noi e voi siamo ancora... più grande!" The old and packed Flaminio Stadium almost pulled down, and the neighbors complaining for the cracks in the walls, ahahah, astonishing memories!

Thank you!
U2 has been my favorite band my entire life. My husband and I can't wait to bring our three kids to hear you live. The stories we have told them their whole lives about seeing U2 live have them completely psyched! Our oldest, who is a guitarist, has been a huge fan since he was a toddler. Your music has been the soundtrack of my life and his. Thank you so much for coming to Dallas! We will be there with our whole family and my sister and her family - a cousin U2 fest. Can't wait to celebrate with the whole U2 tribe! God bless you!

Your 30th is our 10th!
My husband and I celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary this month. I just canceled our vacation and told him we'll celebrate with 'the boys' instead. Thankfully, he agreed. Thanks, lads!

A Very Long Time Coming!
I NEED this! So badly! I had given birth to my first child in 87. Back then I knew nothing of concert-going. I knew only what I liked on the radio and managed to purchase by way of albums. This is a long-time coming for me. I am very excited!

Tempe, Arizona
How can they not be playing a show in Arizona? That is where they opened and closed the Joshua Tree tour. It just seems wrong to not have a show there.
