Loved the rock sound of blackout.,..why is this not the best song to have as the first single...bombastic and U2 at their best ...rocking out to a great rock/pop song...don't understand it myself...bit gutted the other song is a bit underwhelming to say the least.

Hi guys. Good to have some new U2 songs landing. I think it's a clever first single release for SOE, not that i have any other reference (except for The Blackout; which is a good track too). Anyways, for what it's worth - I like it!

I'm a fan since 1983, ya never know what to expect from U2, which is a good thing! This song is fresh. So far the three songs are capturing where U2 are in their head space. This could be the last album. Certain lyrics suggest their saying goodbye? I hope I'm so wrong.

I've heard the new single a few times. And I must admit that because "Best Thing" was preceded by appetizer as tasty as the song "Blackout", it was preliminarily difficult to accept "Best Thing" as the main single. But I also admit that "Best Thing" is too sticky, it had to be the main song. The strong and tight drums of "Blackout" pleases me too much, it seems to be tailored to my taste, being able to put together what I liked to hear before and what I like to hear today. The markings on the drums on each line drove me to the style of the Brazilian composer Cazuza, drove me to the style of the Royal Blood and the tasty bass line recalled the flavor of listening to Pumped Up Kicks from Foster the People. But "Best Thing" is the song of hearing in many ocassions. it's one that brings lightness to a moment or to a person who is tense in a hostile environment, it seems to be the element of healing dreamed up in this quote from the writer, novelist and Brazilian diplomat named Guimarães Rosa, "any love already a little health, a rest in madness". It's definitely a sound with a warm tropical flavor, a sound to heal, a sound that conveys not only love but a deep empathy. Seriously, the album only comes out in December?

On first listen I have to admit to being a bit disappointed, I just don't feel this is a strong enough song to be the first single, I know many fans will probably disagree with me but I am a fan myself and have been for over 30 years, and if this is the best they can come up with after 3 years then it's time to quit while your ahead.

Great song and I can't wait for the album. For what it's worth though, I agree with brando1123's post. Blackout is a stunner and it should be your first single.

So we have heard 3 songs off SoE....Blackout, Best Things, and Little Things....all fantasic songs. I can't stop listening to Best Things and Little Things....Hoping U2 starts playing them (yes THEM on the JT tour .... dump Vertigo and MW, and bring on these 3 wonderful songs!). I'm just picturing this setlist for the remaining JT shows:

These days 'the best thing about them is us' fans that hang in there hoping for a decent release. Very weak choice of a single full stop let alone the first one. Let's hope the other songs from SOE are better than this.
