U2360° TOUR

Jul 23 2011
Minneapolis, MN, US / TCF Bank Stadium
with Interpol

'When the night has come
'And the land is dark
'And the moon is the only light we'll see
'No I won't be afraid, no I won't be afraid
'Just as long as you stand, stand by me...'

One of the stand-out moments in tonight's show in Minneapolis was when Bono brought on stage the Somali rapper K'naan to join in a duet of 'Stand By Me'.
'I want to introduce you to a very special spirit.
'Showing great leadership on behalf of his country, Somalia
'Get used to his name cos your going to hear it a lot...K'naan.'

The rapper, a former Twin Cities resident got quite a reception, as the stadium remembered the people of the Horn of Africa and that was followed by another poignant moment  introducing 'Stuck In A Moment': 'We wrote this for Michael Hutchence... but tonight you will understand when we play it for Amy Winehouse.'

Thunderstorms and severe weather were  forecast for today. We had rain in the morning and if it held off for the start of show, it was soon with us for the evening. But two years after buying their tickets,  nothing was going to stop the people  of The Twin Cities having a blast.
'Get on your boots in your fancy new stadium, handsome place for us to be hanging in tonight...'
Bono reminded us that Minneapolis was originally set to be the last night of the tour and the next two shows had  only been added when this leg was rescheduled. This show, however, marks 'the place to begin the end of tour party.'
'It's amazing to be on stage with these people,' he says. 'Really amazing. At the end of the last show I thought I heard thunder and saw lightning flash from behind me, I thought I 'd been hit by truck,
I thought Mike Tyson had jumped out... but it was Larry Mullen playing the drums.'
Then he felt the ground shaking beneath his feet and when he looked around it was the 'handsome Adam Clayton on bass, a force of nature'.
In this vision he also saw angels, 'some friendly, some wearing beanies but all creating chaos with a host of crazy harmonies.' Turned out it wasn't angels at all, 'it was The Edge on guitar and everything else...'
'And then I heard the voice of God .. and you know what God said?
'He said, 'If you think you're having fun now, wait till you get to Minneapolis...
'The end of tour party starts here...'

Didn't matter that by the time we reached 'Elevation' the rain was getting serious and continued pouring for 'Pride', 'Miss Sarajevo' and Zooropa'.  We were having a  wet and wonderful party. 'America in the rain, singing your heart out - and it's a beautiful heart'.
By 'Blinding Light's we were all 'singing in the rain' and so it continued: 'Don't know what's happening, but we like it,
'Just want to thank you for standing in the rain...'

'Despite all the bells and whistles,' reported The StarTribune,  first out of the blocks with their review of the show. 'U2 gave a performance that was both over-the-top and intimate, both epic and informal, both highfalutin' and fun.'

Did  you get wet in Minneapolis tonight? Were you singing in the rain? How was the start of the end of tour party for you? Add your own reviews and post your photos below.

I think the rain made the concert even more memorable! Great show! Bono seemed to be even more energized with all the rain pouring down. I scanned the stadium from the floor near the end and it was still full. Everyone was soaked and and loving every minute of it!!
Even better in the rain
After 15 years of waiting, U2 far exceeded my expectations. Their music was only topped by their strong messages of peace and justice. They made us look up and see the world around us. U2 perseverance through the rain showed their true strength and character. Thank you for the most amazing concert I ever been to!
Awesome and Mighty
Thanks U2 for delivering an epic show despite the torrential downpour! It was engaging, epic, and awesome! You stuck it out with us in exceedingly tough conditions, that would have caused other bands to cancel or cut the set short! No one else has done such awesome live performances, created a catalog of great music, and been as tough a band live. Thank you! Please come back soon!

U2 Mpls 2011
Purple Rain into Streets was off the charts solid! Wow Bono Edge Larry and Adam, you forged on and played the most unreal performance I have ever seen. I have been to every tour since 1982 and this one topped them all, rain and all. Dallas Shoo-Awesome... you and Edge kept the sound coming out. Adam (Shirtless, in the rain, and RIPPED) Larry powerful as always. And Bono- you made Mpls the END of The Tour Party OFFICIAL at the U of M in Mpls. 1983 Univ of M Northrop Aud - 2011 TCF Bank Stadium. Unreal ride from the time I was 17. My son Ryan (15) was there tonight on the center rail on his 3rd U2 Tour. Looking forward to more boys!
Amazing Night! The pouring rain made this incredible show even more epic! Bono was at his ultimate best as a frontman and the band - despite a couple glitches with equipment because of the rain - were playing at a fevered pitch! Highlight of the night was Bono singing "Purple Rain" in homage to local icon Prince as the band transitioned into "Where the Streets Have No Name"!!! It was a night all of us - including the band - will never forget! Thank you!
that was my first u2 concert and let me say that was the greatest concert ive ever ever been too the people were nice the rain the day and u2 just kicked some serious butt. it was by far the greatest day of my life... the rain had a big help in that it was just magical or something it was special and i cant wait for the next tour!!!!
Fantastic show!! The rain was great, the band played through and the 60,000 fans stuck it out! Thank you U2!
Even better in the rain!
Highlight was the crowd singing along with Bono on City of Blinding Lights, "Oh...You...Look...So...Beautiful". It was like one big, happy, albeit very WET family!

Please play Bad
I would love it if you would play Bad this Saturday in Minneapolis. It would be in memory of my husband who passed away a year ago today. Jon was a huge fan of U2 and Bad was his favorite song. We even played it at his funeral. I know he will be there in spirit ...as he would never miss a U2 concert!
One Tree Hill
I hope you play this in Minneapolis-this is my first concert of U2 and that is my all time favorite song-also been to Ireland a couple times but you guys were not there....but i did get to see the homestad where my grandfather lived! awesome!!
Out of Control
I heard you play this in Ireland in 2005 at Croke Park. Please play this again in Minneapolis!!
Bad needs to be played as it is the best live U2 song and since this the first true outdoor stadium tour Minneapolis has hosted since the Met Stadium, please play your song that has much meaning to me and my friends. We were lucky to be in Chicago two years ago when you played it opening night at Soldier and its time to bring it back for Minneapolis.
What about Lemon, Stay, So Cruel, Stateless, October, Party Girl, God Part II ? I would reaaaaaally looooove that!!!!!!
I would love to see Crumbs from your table played again in Minneapolis.....:)
This should be the hottest show of the summer in Minneapolis!

U2 will be outside for the first time ever in MN. Its mid winter and all I can do is wait for the hot july night this town gets rocked by U2. Play any song you guys want because they all are awesome live. Be sure to call Prince and get him to sit in on a song or two. Historic! Love you guys, best band ever, soundtrack of my life . . . peace and love . . .Joe Man
